Property Description for 34-47 80th Street, 32

Here is a rare opportunity to own a Classic 7 apartment in the legendary Chateau, the pre-war masterpiece designed by Andrew J. Thomas. This four-bedroom/two and a quarter bathroom home sits on the third floor offering a beautiful mix of light and treetops from four exposures. There are only two apartments per floor in the Chateaus. This home was fully renovated in 2015 including a full electrical replacement, new plaster, paint and moldings, floors refinished, original radiators refinished and restoration of the original period crystal and brass doorknobs. Designed for entertaining and comfort, the massive open concept living/dining area has a wood-burning fireplace and five oversized windows. The long windowed kitchen has top-of-the-line stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, LED ceiling lights and ample Shaker style cabinets. It also features a range hood that vents out to the exterior chimney, a rare and welcome feature for enthusiastic cooks! The bedrooms are accessed from a long corridor off the entry foyer giving them privacy and quiet. The primary and secondary bedrooms (currently used as an office/gym) face the Chateau’s magnificent nearly block-long shared garden. The primary bedroom features an ensuite full windowed bathroom and a walk-in closet. There is another windowed full bathroom off the hallway and two additional bedrooms (one with a windowed quarter bath) that can each accommodate a Queen-sized bed. Original pre-war features include the magnificent hardwood floors with inlays (refinished), 9’ ceilings, moldings (restored), oversized windows and a wood burning fireplace in the living room. The laundry room, bike storage and private personal storage (which trades with the apartment at no charge) are located in the basement which can be accessed via the elevator. There is a live-in super. Pets allowed with Board approval. Building requires 25% down payment and board approval. Subletting not permitted. No flip tax and no assessments. The Chateau, inspired by French Renaissance architecture, is comprised of 12 individual buildings (each it’s own coop) and was completed in 1922. Its beautiful garden has undergone a complete renovation and is nearly complete (the assessment has been paid for by the current owner). It is close to the 37th St. shopping corridor and has easy access to Manhattan, LaGuardia Airport and five subway lines. Jackson Heights offers a lively, culturally-diverse, community-minded neighborhood. Enjoy Travers Park, the weekly Farmer’s Market, 34th Ave. Open Streets and an exciting, diverse food scene!

Jackson Heights | Queens

Quick Profile

Jackson Heights has one of the most diverse populations in the city, and over 100 languages are spoken here. With this cultural diversity comes supporting restaurants, bars, shops and cultural opportunities. It is a mix of commercial and residential properties. There is a wide range of shops and service businesses, so that anything you would need, from a barber, to a pharmacy, to clothing, and food is available right in the neighborhood, no matter which culture or language you might need these services provided in.

Jackson Heights has three nicknames, based on micro-neighborhoods with the neighborhood as a whole. Little India occupies an area on 74th Street, while parts of 73rd Street are known as Little Pakistan. Little Columbia is along 37th Avenue.

A large portion of Jackson Heights has been designated as an historic district, from Roosevelt Avenue to Northern Boulevard, between the east side of 76th Street to the west side of 88th Street.

Jackson Heights was a planned community, where the first “garden apartments” were created in buildings constructed around central gardens and green spaces that gave neighbors a place to meet and socialize with one another, created places for children to play, allowing light to come into the apartments and air to flow freely through them. These gardens are private and only residents have access to them. Passing by the buildings, you might not even guess the gardens were there, as they are not generally visible from the street.

Additionally, there are some mid-rise apartment buildings. Some of these are rentals, some are co-ops, and some are condos. There are a few attached row houses that provide housing for one to three families.

As much as Jackson Heights might be full of noise and mix of cultures, it also has a quieter side, where the various cultures mix and mingle and learn about each other against a backdrop of beautiful architecture and a culinary landscape that brings the world to Queens.
