Property Description for 610 Willoughby Ave

A seamless marriage of modern convenience and historic charm, 610 Willoughby Avenue is a sprawling, masterfully renovated home perched in one of Brooklyn's most sought after neighborhoods. Currently configured as a five bedroom owner's triplex above a high income-producing two-bedroom rental with its own dedicated outdoor space, this exceedingly special 1899-built residence presents a variety of options for its next steward. Enter the parlor floor to be immediately greeted by the current owner's spectacular renovation choices. The entry vestibule welcomes you with its pristine wainscoting, lovely Louis Poulsen PH5 pendant light and stunning Zellige tile, handmade in Morocco. Just beyond the vestibule lies the massive living room, dining room and pristinely renovated kitchen, not to mention an absolutely jaw-dropping powder room. Dramatic 10+ foot ceilings, stunning whitewashed exposed brick, oversized street-facing windows and a wall of south-facing casement doors allow the space to be bathed in natural light at nearly all hours of the day. There is ample room to entertain, dine, and of course to prepare meals and gather in the truly special, gut-renovated kitchen. Featuring appliances by Blomberg and Kitchen Aid, Brizo Odin Luxe Gold hardware and custom Reform cabinetry, this special room is completed by an enormous calacatta marble countertop with seating for four and prep space galore. Directly off of the kitchen you'll find the swoon-worthy half-bath/powder room featuring Gucci wallpaper, In Common light fixtures and a hand-crafted Concretti bucket sink. Step outside through the brand new floor-to-ceiling casement doors to find a true urban oasis. Just beyond the kitchen is a brand new full-width deck on which to dine, grill, and grow the produce of your dreams. A fence has been erected to ensure maximum privacy and there's both power and a water source. Down the steps beyond the deck lies the expertly landscaped lower garden. Replete with lovely native plants, a fire pit and ample seating, the nearly 900 square foot backyard offers a truly serene place in which to spend time. Finally, there is a fenced-in, entirely private additional section of the yard dedicated to the garden-level two-bedroom apartment. Back inside and up to the second floor lies the massive primary bedroom and en suite primary bathroom. The bedroom spans the complete width of the home including a wall of three windows providing gorgeous light throughout the afternoon. There's a large, custom closet and the ceilings are an unusually high 9 feet. The completely renovated en suite bathroom, meanwhile, must be seen to be believed. Highlighted by its deep soaking tub and separate shower, Brizo Odin Luxe Gold hardware and incredible Calacatta Vagli Rosatto marble, this is the bathroom most people dream of. Down the hall on the second floor sits the vented washer/dryer and an additional, south-facing one or two bedrooms which are currently being used as two home offices. The top floor features three more oversized bedrooms, yet another bathroom and, perhaps best of all, five skylights which soak this level in sunlight from dusk till dawn. Head back downstairs to the completely renovated garden-level home to find a special two-bedroom, one bathroom residence with gorgeous whitewashed exposed-brick, a brand new bathroom and a fenced-in, private outdoor space. This unit can be a highly profitable short or long term rental, a space used by friends and relatives or it can be easily combined into the triplex to create a truly sprawling single-family home. Completing the picture is a fully renovated, full height basement. 610 Willoughby Avenue, fresh off a complete renovation helmed by Gramercy Park-based design studio BSP, is an exceedingly rare opportunity in today's marketplace. In addition to the above, this swoon-worthy residence features multi-zone central AC, a brand new roof, new deck and awe-inspiring new hardwood floors with additional sound attenuation providing a truly serene living experience. The handsome Brownstone is 18 x 42 with an additional extension on the garden level. Outside of the home, shopping and dining options abound, the G/J/M/Z subways are all within a half mile walk and the surrounding streets of wonderful Bedford Stuyvesant are tree-lined oases.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
