Property Description for 425 East 51st Street, 4-D

Overlooking neighboring brownstone gardens, this romantic one bedroom is the epitome of its exclusive Beekman Place location. The gracious layout, with entry foyer and separate bedroom wing makes it a true home. 9'2" beamed ceilings, hardwood floors, crystal glass door knobs and stripped metal doors preserve its prewar elegance. The windowed kitchen, with Leibherr refrigerator, Miele dishwasher and Bertazzoni oven/range also has a separate service entrance. The corner bedroom, with two exposures, is pin-drop quiet. The renovated, windowed bath offers a walk in shower. This hidden gem is a true respite from the city. Beekman Hill House is a boutique cooperative, with live-in superintendent, porters who accept deliveries from 8am to midnight and a nighttime neighborhood patrol. The building offers a central laundry, rear garden for residents, private storage (subject to availability) and bike room. 80% financing is permitted, as are pets and pied-a-terres; a 2% flip tax is payable by the seller. Many nearby shopping and dining options are nearby; Peter Detmold Park, with riverfront jogging path and off-leash dog run, is at the end of the block.

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
