Property Description for 242 East 7th Street, 2

Welcome to The Stone House, an extraordinary residence that stands as a true gem in the heart of Lower Manhattan. This remarkable building, originally a magnificent synagogue with a rich history, has been artfully transformed into five distinct residences. Among them, Residence Two shines as an architecturally stunning multilevel loft, offering an indulgent primary suite with a generously proportioned separate dressing area, two impeccably renovated full bathrooms, a spacious den, a convenient home office, and a delightful small outdoor space. Upon entering the home, prepare to be captivated by a magnificent arched window, walnut floors, and soaring 16.5-foot ceilings, evoking an unrivaled sense of space and grandeur. Ascend to the mezzanine level, where a charming home office awaits, complete with a decorative street-facing window that adds an extra touch of character. Below the home office, you'll find a spacious but cozy den featuring a bar and additional storage, providing the perfect space for relaxation and entertainment. Step into the fully renovated open kitchen, a haven for culinary enthusiasts, equipped with a Viking range, a wine fridge, and a washer/dryer, seamlessly blending functionality and style. The upper level hosts the stunning primary suite, boasting a gorgeous primary bathroom adorned with sandstone-colored porcelain tiles, a double vanity, and featuring a self-cleaning Toto wall-hung toilet with a built-in bidet. Impeccable attention to detail can be seen throughout every corner of this extraordinary residence, from the open staircases to the artfully concealed storage cabinets, elevating the living experience to new heights. The rich history of The Stone House traces back to its construction in 1908 by the esteemed architectural firm of Gross & Kleinberger, commissioned for the Beth Hamedrash Hagadol Anshe Ungarn, a thriving Hungarian congregation. Originally a three-story brick house, it underwent a magnificent transformation into this elegant stone synagogue in the neoclassical style. Recognizing its historical and cultural significance, The Stone House was designated a New York City Landmark in 2007. The opportunity to experience a residence of this caliber and historical significance is truly rare. Discover the pinnacle of luxurious living at The Stone House, where heritage seamlessly blends with contemporary elegance.

East Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The East Village has two distinct moods. By day, it is quiet and peaceful. Everyone is out and about, either working or relaxing at Tompkins Square Park, strolling or jogging along the East River, or hanging out in one of the subsets of cultural activity, such as St. Mark’s Place.

But then night falls, and the East Village comes to life, keeping the entertainment and nightlife going long after the other neighborhoods have called it quits for the night. People from all five boroughs flock to the dive bars and speakeasies, head for their favorite cafes and restaurants, or drop in to a music venue to listen to hot tunes or cool jazz and dance the night away. Don’t worry, you don’t have to “know somebody” to gain admittance to even the most popular venues. You won’t find velvet ropes, bouncers, or and a waiting list at the door of most places. Just walk right in and enjoy yourself.

Be prepared for the increased population during fall through spring, when NYU is in session. College students will be everywhere, contributing to the youthful essense of the neighborhood.
