Property Description for 414 East 52nd Street, 8-B

Move right into this meticulously maintained large one bedroom one bath home in the heart of Beekman. Apartment 8B features a true entrance gallery with coat closet that leads to a spacious living room with a wood-burning fireplace. The kitchen is super sunny, with stainless steel appliances and tons of cabinet space. A spacious bedroom and bathroom complete this apartment. Located on a cul-de-sac that overlooks the east river, the Southgate buildings are beautifully maintained prewar elevator co-ops designed by Emery Roth and sturdily built by Bing & Bing. Southgate enjoys the services and security provided by a live-in superintendent and 24-hour door staff. There is a bike room and storage is available. Southgate also is pet-friendly. Electricity is included in the monthly maintenance. Pieds-a-terre and guarantors are permitted. The neighborhood has many delightful restaurants, shops of all kinds, grocery stores, and a famed weekly farmers market. Public and private transportation routes run easily up and down local avenues and crosstown into the Midtown business district and beyond.

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
