Property Description for 424 East 52nd Street, 10-A

Move right into this mint 2-Bed 2-Bath home at The Southgate, an Emery Roth designed Luxury Pre-War full-serviced Co-op located on a cul-de-sac in the prestigious Beekman enclave. This elegantly appointed home offers a charming foyer that opens up into a large living room accented by a wood-burning fireplace, large windows, crown moldings and beamed ceilings. The generously sized Primary bedroom has an en-suite windowed bathroom and a large walk-in closet and can easily fit a king sized bed with additional furniture. The generously-sized 2nd bedroom has an en-suite windowed bathroom as well. The fully equipped windowed Kitchen flows seamlessly into the adjacent large dedicated Dining alcove with a pantry and ample storage shelves. Beautiful hardwood floors throughout and double exposures to the North and South gives this home a light and airy feel.

424 East 52nd street is part of The Southgate complex located in Manhattan's Beekman neighborhood. Four of the buildings are in a cul-de-sac on East 52nd Street and the other is located a block over, on East 51st Street. The cluster of buildings, which was originally designed by renowned architect Emery Roth and built by the Bing and Bing brothers, turned Beekman into the thriving residential enclave that it is today. The location provides a perfect blend of immediate access to all of the amenities of Midtown, with the privacy and tranquility of the nearby parks, dog runs and the East River. Completed in 1931, the Southgate features a full-time doorman, landscaped garden with children's play area, laundry room, storage, and bicycle room. Peid-a-terre and pets are allowed, and electricity is included in the maintenance.

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
