Property Description for 347 Gates Ave, 4

Rare three-bedroom, two-bathroom duplex penthouse with huge private roof deck and private balcony in a beautifully converted brownstone condominium. Boutique with only four residences, the brownstone is located on a tree-lined block of Gates Avenue in prime western Bed-Stuy.

Totaling 1,108 interior square feet and 600 exterior square feet, this penthouse home blends both indoor and outdoor living, as well as the timeless charm of a historic Brooklyn brownstone with the amenities of contemporary design. The home has high ceilings, handsome oak flooring, and recessed lighting throughout. The large Pella casement windows bring maximal light and sound attenuation.

The lower level of the home (fourth floor of the brownstone) is winged, with an entry foyer connecting one side's large south-facing living and dining area with the second and third bedrooms. Both sides of this floor receive exceptional light, with open exposures overlooking the trees in both directions. The living and dining room areas have special herringbone floors.

The open chef's kitchen has a Bertazzoni range and oven with overhead microwave, a Bosch dishwasher, and a large Fisher & Paykel refrigerator with freezer. The large kitchen island has a large and deep sink, with lots of counterspace and storage below. The island can easily seat four stools. The dining area can fit a sizable six-top table, and the living area can fit a large couch and sitting area, with a large wall for mounting a television.

Both the second and third bedrooms (the latter of which is currently used as a large den/office) have full closets and are pin-drop quiet with great light. The third bedroom (current den/office) opens to the lower level's own private balcony. A full bathroom with Waterworks fixtures and a soaking tub, as well as a large hallway closet off the entry foyer, complete this level.

Up the stairs from the entry foyer is the second level of the home, with the large primary bedroom and roof deck. The primary bedroom opens to both areas of the private roof deck and easily fits a queen-size bed with two side tables. The bedroom has a full closet and a windowed full bathroom with standing shower.

The private roof deck has sweeping views both from its larger southern area and from its northern area. With no other residence sharing the roof space-plus, no neighboring brownstones having roof decks this high-this penthouse roof deck has the utmost privacy and is excellent for entertaining.

Located on a tree-lined block lined with lovely brownstones, 347 Gates is a standout with its beautiful renovation. This block of Gates Avenue is very quiet and residential but is also located centrally among all of the restaurants, shops and markets, and cultural amenities of western Bed-Stuy and eastern Clinton Hill. Some dining highlights very close by include: Dept of Culture, For All Things Good, Bunny, Golda, The Fly, Hart's, Abu's Homestyle Bakery, Fan-Fan Doughnuts, and David's Brisket House.

The building is proximate to both the Franklin Avenue C/Shuttle and Nostrand Avenue A/C stations, as well as the Bedford-Nostrand G-train station. Bedford and Nostrand Avenues also have the very convenient B44-Select Bus. CitiBike stations abound.

The condominium is pet-friendly.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
