Property Description for 903 Sterling Place

Located in a beautiful, landmarked section of Crown Heights lies this masterfully renovated and stately four-bedroom, three-bathroom brownstone. This townhouse is full of grandeur and beauty. Streaming sunlight guides you through the parlor-level foyer as you enter the living room with incredible south-facing, arched windows, and a decorative fireplace. Continue through this wonderful space to the warm, spacious kitchen with exposed brick and a large, detailed bay window. The pop of blue cabinetry and stone counters create an inviting and casual dining experience with the stainless steel appliances by GE and Bosch, banquet seating, and designer lighting. Ascend to the second floor where you will find two large bedrooms and a modern full bath with laundry tucked away. Escape the ordinary to the spectacular third-floor primary suite. This space is dedicated to an impeccable, sprawling primary main bedroom and dressing room with custom shelving creating a closet to envy. The crown jewel of the home is the primary ensuite bath, featuring a massive frameless glass-walk-in shower, a freestanding soaking tub, a private water closet, and separate vanity areas with custom millwork and wide mirrors. Descending to the first floor, you will find a comfortable family room outfitted with built-ins perfect for working or studying from home. An additional large bedroom and modern bath complete the garden level. Enjoy entertaining in the generous backyard that is perfectly positioned to become an urban escape. The cellar below offers additional storage. This oasis was created during an extensive renovation in 2015 which included all-new plumbing, electrical, boiler, and hot water tank. Multi-zone HVAC ensures year-round comfort, and the handsome, updated facade adds wonderful curb appeal on a lovely tree-lined block. 903 Sterling is a majestic Romanesque/Renaissance Revival brownstone built in 1894. Situated among a row of 15 classic high-stoop townhouses, the home was designed by Swedish architects Magnus Dahlander and Axel Hedman for Faustino Lozano, a prominent cigar manufacturer and tobacco importer/exporter. Vibrant and diverse, Crown Heights offers incredible entertainment, leafy historic districts, and easy access around Brooklyn and downtown Manhattan. Nearby Prospect Park provides 586 acres of glorious outdoor space and recreation, and the Brooklyn Library, Brooklyn Museum and Children's Museum, and Botanic Garden are all within easy reach. Transportation includes easy access to the LIRR and A/C, 2/3, 4/5, and Brooklyn Shuttle subway lines, excellent bus service, and CitiBike stations all nearby.

Crown Heights | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Originally known as Crown Hill by the Lenape Indians that lived there, Crown Heights has evolved into a diverse neighborhood, occupied primarily by Hasidic Jews and one of the largest Caribbean populations to be found anywhere outside of the West Indies.

Head over to Nostrand Avenue, one of the main West Indian commercial areas in the neighborhood, which is lined with stores that have been in those exact same places for generations, providing their goods and services to area residents. Kingston Avenue has similar commercial activities that support the Jewish community, and Franklin Avenue shows the most signs of change and gentrification, with an ever-expanding mix of yoga studios, coffee shops, and organic grocery stores that serve the influx of young professionals. No matter which of these areas you visit, you will find an interesting mix of businesses that you wouldn’t normally picture as existing side-by-side. It is all part of the cultural diversity of Crown Heights.

The neighborhood is bisected, from east to west, by Eastern Parkway, which is a beautiful, 3-mile-long boulevard lined with mature trees. This leafy oasis was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famed designer of Central Park, the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, and the U. S. Capitol in Washington, D. C.

You will find a mix of low-rise apartment buildings, large middle-class elevator buildings, brownstones, and some luxury buildings. Century-old architecture stands next to modern residential developments in a visually interesting mix of styles, much as the diversity of the residents exists. People who would not normally meet and mix are forging new pathways to cultural understanding by working, living, and playing together in the same neighborhood.
