Property Description for 888 Park Ave, 12-B

Stephen Sills (decorator) and Charlotte Worthy (architect) have created a truly one-of-a-kind masterpiece at 888 Park Avenue. The apartment was completely renovated, and refinished with chic and new high-end finishes, while retaining the hallmarks of grand prewar Park Avenue buildings.

Upon entering the apartment from a semi-private vestibule, one enters a beautifully proportioned gallery which leads to all of the main entertaining spaces which have fine Parquet de Versailles wood flooring. The south facing living room is 29' in length and has a Louis XIV mantle surrounding a wood-burning fire place. The tabor wood paneled Library can be accessed by the gallery or through the living room and also faces south. A hand painted canvas mural adorns the walls of the gracious formal dining.

Off the dining room is a custom wine bar with Polished Bardiglio Imperiale countertops and a Pyrite backsplash, a full-size Subzero wine refrigerator and Miele ice maker. The incredibly spacious chef's kitchen uses some of the finest and durable materials such as Super White Quartzite countertops and backsplash, custom Walnut butcher block island, two generous Super White Quartzite sinks and cork floors. The state-of-the-art appliances include a Lacanche stove from France, double Sub-zero refrigerators with four freezer drawers and double Miele dishwashers. In the corner is a large, custom curved banquette with Pindler fabric perfect for informal dining. A large laundry room, additional bedroom and full bath can be accessed off the rear of the kitchen.

All of the main bedrooms are accessed off a private hallway where a lovely powder room also sits. The corner primary suite is sun-flooded with eastern and southern light from the dual exposures throughout the day. The elegant primary bath was created by using Cote D'Azur slab stone throughout and a single, honed block of Bianco Dolomiti for the vanity top. The shower has a window within the space, a beautifully finished cove ceiling and THG Paris fixtures. The ample closet spaces which can be found throughout the suite have been carefully thought out.

Each of the secondary bedrooms has an abundance of closet space, built-in cabinetry and beautiful hand painted wallpaper. The secondary bathrooms have polished Quarzo Bianco/Cristallo slab throughout with glass tile showers. Thoughtful additions are found in every detail of the finishes. Sound-proofing has been installed between each of the adjoining bedroom walls making each room a quiet and lovely cocoon for sleeping, and the library perfect for movie watching or business conference calls in the midst of activity in other parts of the apartment.

Featured on the cover of Elle Decor, September 2020 as well as the designer's own well reviewed opus - Steven Sills: A Vision for Design, apartment 12B is a stunning showpiece retaining a sense of Old-World elegance, while replete with the best of today's modern design. Incredible thought and consideration were put into every detail of this completely gut renovated apartment. The incredible proportions and sun-flooded exposure create a space perfect for large scale entertaining, yet wonderfully intimate for everyday living. Rarely does such a newly and thoughtfully finished apartment become available in a building of this caliber.

Upper East Side | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Exuding a cosmopolitan, refined air that is reminiscent of Paris or other European cities, the Upper East Side (the UES, to local cognoscenti) has a reputation as being a bastion of wealth and privilege. Even though it was built by American “royalty” families like the Vanderbilts, Roosevelts, Kennedys, Carnegies and Rockefellers, whose elaborate mansions once anchored Fifth Avenue, there are affordable housing options throughout the neighborhood. The further east you move, away from Central Park and the more commercial avenues, the more likely you are to find quiet, tree-lined streets with historic townhouses and brownstones. Keep your eye out for reasonably priced apartments in pre-war low-rise and even a few high-rise buildings.

With abundant, beautifully landscaped green spaces, including the oasis of Central Park acting like a backyard, the area is quiet and lushly green. You can relax and unwind in John Jay Park, Carl Schurz Park or take a stroll along the East River Promenade. The whole neighborhood seems isolated from the workaday chaos of the city at large. Add to that the history of the neighborhood and the abundance of cultural institutions, and you have a uniquely welcoming neighborhood.

Known for its abundance of high-end retail shopping, especially on Madison Avenue, the Upper East Side is host to the Barneys New York flagship department store. Here you can find upscale goods, fashion and home decor items. You will also find the edgy runway-inspired Alexander McQueen collections. If you are dying to treat your feet to red-soled opulence, be sure to visit the Christian Louboutin boutique. These are only a small sampling of this high-end shopper’s paradise that features everything from designer boutiques that offer the ultimate in haute couture to resale shops where you can find last season’s best on sale at hefty discounts .

There are many unique dining experiences, from fine dining to the casual bite-on-the-go, awaiting you in the UES. Sushi is going through a renaissance in the city, and the best omakase-style sushi can be found at Sasabune on E 73rd Street. Omakase sushi means that you leave the choice of ingredients, preparation method and presentation to the chef. Elegant French cuisine can be experienced at JoJo, E 64th Street, housed in gorgeous townhouse. Just for fun, visit the Lexington Candy Shop on Lexington Avenue, to get a taste of an old-fashioned soda fountain.
