Property Description for 37 West 12th Street, 11-D

The Building You've Always Heard About
Award winning and a favorite among architects, The Butterfield House is located on Greenwich Village's Gold Coast. Residence 11D, captures a NY Story: Only one family has lived here since The Butterfield House was built in 1962 - this is a rare opportunity. Residence 11D has magnificent southern exposures, great views of the downtown skyline plus a charming expanse of rooftops. The elegance begins with a stylish foyer that opens up into a grand living space with a wall of windows and balcony. Experience almost 9' ceilings, vintage 60's wallpaper throughout, plus loads of wall space for art-lovers, and handsome hardwood floors. The windowed kitchen easily converts to an open floor plan that could include a generous island. And, throughout this peaceful two-bed, two-bath residence, large-scale windows allow light to pour in. This apartment is especially quiet because it faces the courtyard between the buildings and not the streets.

The light-story continues in the two generously proportioned bedrooms. The primary bedroom wows with floor-to-ceiling skyline views and ample space for a king-size bed, walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom. Experience the spacious 2nd bedroom with retro wallpaper and Freedom Tower views, plus two large-scale closets.

The two bathrooms are finished with white mosaic tile, vanity sinks, medicine cabinets, wall-mounted magnifying mirrors and tubs. Zoning in: the living room and two bedrooms have individually operated A/C and heat. In its entirety, the residence is a rare mix of elegance, ease and warmth with incredible light and views.

Located in the heart of the village, world class amenities abound: shops, restaurants, schools, boutiques, parks, coffee shops. The residence is steps from Union Square, Washington Square Park and offers easy transit access: NYC subway and bus lines, Citi Bike for breezy Manhattan transport or simply walk to your favorite hangouts.

The renowned Butterfield House is a luxury, full service, 24-hour doorman coop building with a resident manager and impeccable staff. Building amenities include a fitness center, bicycle room, laundry room, storage, garage and landscaped garden. There is a waitlist for storage.

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
