Property Description for 434 East 52nd Street, 3-E

Sleek and stunning, 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment in the impeccably-run Southgate complex! Located in the coveted Beekman neighborhood of Manhattan, this one-of-a-kind modern jewel has twice been featured on the front page of the NY Times Home & Garden section and is every bit as beautiful when seen in person. The spacious and unique residence was conceived by an award-winning fashion designer-owner collaborating with top architects, to transform the interiors from their classic origins to an exceptionally open, airy contemporary gem.

The urban oasis boasts is enriched by gorgeous espresso stained hardwood floors, beautiful ceiling beams, and refined finishes at every turn. Oversized windows on triple exposures (north, south and west) brighten the ambience throughout and enhance the luxurious feel. Enter into a fabulous open-concept dining room with a partial glass wall looking down to generous double-height sunken living room. Adjoining the dining room is a top-of-the-line chef's kitchen appointed with custom cabinetry, thick honed white marble countertops and breakfast bar, and premium-grade appliances. Extend the entertaining in the step-down living room marked by tall 9-foot windows, a wood-burning fireplace with striking black marble mantel, and amazing wall space for hanging works of art. On the opposite side of the home sits the private sleeping wing. Your inviting, soothing primary bedroom suite enjoys lovely light and its own elegant Carrera marble-clad spa bath with a tub/shower. Siding metal doors access a large dressing area or home office, and a huge walk-in closet, both of which are situated between the primary and secondary bedrooms. Other highlights are an upscale second bath with oversized shower in the hall, and ample additional closet space elsewhere in the apartment.

Built circa 1930 by the famed Bing & Bing and designed by the renowned Emery Roth in the art deco style, 434 East 52nd is a sought-after cooperative in handsome Southgate. The full-service building offers a full-time doorman, porter, live-in resident manager, handyman, laundry and bike rooms, plus a lush landscaped garden. Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
