Property Description for 457 West 150th Street, 2-D

Be the first to live in this stunning, extra-large one-bedroom, one-bath apartment at the brand-new ‘Carriage House Lofts’ by Artifact Living, located at 457 West 150th Street between Amsterdam and Convent Avenues. Apartment 2D is bathed in sunlight, boasting eastern, western, and southern exposures in the living room and courtyard. This true loft features soaring 15-foot ceilings (!), creating an airy yet cozy atmosphere. The wide-plank antique spruce wood floors throughout were repurposed from the original wood beams, removed to create the new courtyard. Naturally, every unit in the Carriage House Lofts includes an in-unit washer/dryer and premium kitchen appliances, such as a dishwasher, induction cooktop, circulating hood, built-in oven, and microwave. Enjoy the convenience of multi-zone central heating and air-conditioning, allowing separate temperature control in different areas of your home to save money (and the planet). The spa-like bathroom is equipped with chrome Grohe fixtures and a deep tub for ultimate relaxation. The European-style windows are thermally and acoustically insulated to manage sunlight and noise. Security is paramount in this 26-unit building, safeguarded by multiple cameras in the entryway and common areas. The ButterflyMX intercom system lets you see and speak with visitors, while elevator access is secured via PIN code or your smartphone app, ensuring extra safety on residential floors. The landscaped courtyard, open to all residents during daylight hours, offers various seating arrangements perfect for reading, reflecting, or snacking. The rooftop terrace provides lounge seating and a panoramic view of the Sugar Hill district. This unit is available for move-in from February 15, or as late as April 1. ABOUT THE BUILDING: Nestled in the heart of the historic Sugar Hill district of Harlem, a remarkable transformation has taken place at 457 W. 150th Street: A 19th century carriage house and livery stable built to house horses that raced on the Harlem River Speedway has been reimagined as a meticulously crafted 26-unit residential rental building that maintains the original structure’s architectural simplicity and symmetrical design. Originally built in the Neoclassical style in 1920, the building is now ready for its next chapter as a collection of modern studios, 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units, available now for rent. The building’s facade has been beautifully restored to its original splendor, reflecting the architectural grandeur of the Sugar Hill district. Inside, history continues in sustainably repurposed materials: enormous wood beams, salvaged during the creation of the courtyard, have been transformed by a Brooklyn-based wood shop into stunning wide-plank flooring of heart pine, featured throughout every unit. This unique heritage property is now welcoming tenants to write their own chapters within its warm, welcoming walls.

Washington Heights | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Washington Heights, a hilly neighborhood on Manhattan’s northern tip known for its affordable apartments, preserved pre-war buildings, and Dominican food. Some would argue that it's a hidden gem and one of Manhattan's last neighborhoods that has retained its culture. The large swath of land is bordered by Inwood to the north along Dyckman Street, by Harlem to the South along 155th Street, by the Harlem River to the east, and the Hudson River to the West. It is the highest natural point on the Island of Manhattan.

Despite its high residential density, Washington Heights and Inwood have not seen modern housing construction in more than a decade other than relatively small housing units. Midtown Manhattan, Battery Park, TriBeCa, Chelsea, and Hell’s Kitchen, on the other hand, have seen an increase in building. Most of the high rise construction belongs to hospitals such as New York Presbyterian, Columbia University Medical Center, and educational institutions like Yeshiva University and Boricua College.

Washington Heights has access to amazing green spaces like The Cloisters, Fort Washington Park, Highbridge Park and Fort Tryon Park. There is no shortage of historical landmarks either. Remember General George Washington set up his camp in Washington Heights during the Revolutionary War. He used the elevated neighborhood to his tactical advantage to spot the Redcoats. As history would have it, his plan didn’t work out so well and the British occupied New York for seven years.
