Property Description for 157 Bergen Street, TH

Welcome to 157 Bergen Street, a recently renovated 3BR/2BA triplex situated in a brick townhouse on a tree-lined residential block in the heart of Boerum Hill. Built in 1910, this spacious home offers a beautiful blend of modern updates and historic charm. At the top of the stoop, enter through the original double doors into a sprawling parlor floor with soaring ceilings, a decorative fireplace and gorgeous molding and medallion. Oversized windows with original shutters allow southern light to stream in all day. The stylish chef's kitchen features marble and granite floors, Morroccan handcrafted Zellige backsplash tiles, a center island, marble countertops, custom cabinetry, a 36" Electrolux induction oven with a vented hood, a drawer microwave, a paneled Fisher Paykel refrigerator and dishwasher. A stunning arch, curved mirror and more decorative molding add historic elegance to this modernized space. A windowed door off of the kitchen provides easy access to a private deck and shared backyard with a cherry blossom tree and forsythias. On the second floor, two spacious bedrooms with walk-in closets await. The southern-facing primary bedroom has a wall of windows and a nook with a curved arch that would work well as an additional sleeping space or office area. The bathroom on this level features a carrera marble vanity and walls, a brand new stackable washer/dryer, and penny tile floors. On the third floor, you'll discover an open studio space with ample room for a bedroom on the southern end, and a kitchenette overlooking the lush back yard on the other. This level provides ample storage space as well with three large closets. The renovated bathroom features a towel heater, hexagon flower tile floors, subway tiles, and a newly reglazed cast iron tub. Additional updates include almost all new windows and doors, refinished floors on the parlor and second floor, and all new wood floors on the top level, fully updated electric wiring (220 v), roof top top solar panels, and gorgeous Farrow & Ball paint colors throughout. Nearby attractions include Barclays Center, City Point Shopping Center, DeKalb Market Hall, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and a plethora of restaurants and shops on Smith Street and Atlantic Avenue. Boerum Hill | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Boerum Hill is a tiny, quiet, primarily residential neighborhood in Brooklyn. There are broad tree-lined streets that are filled with elegant three and four-story brownstones and townhouses, mostly built between 1840 and 1870. There is a definite family vibe to the neighborhood, but young professionals are moving in, and with them are coming trendy bars to cater to their desire for some measure of nightlife, without having to linger in Manhattan. These new bars and restaurants are being sandwiched in amongst existing shops on both Atlantic Avenue and Smith Street, which are the main commercial areas in Boerum Hill.

Boerum Hill offers a convenient location that is still able to maintain its small-neighborhood feel. Shopkeepers value their customers and remember their regulars. It continues to do what it was designed to do, namely provide small-town living in the very shadow of the big city. Boerum Hill is an easy commute to other parts of the city, making it easy to come home every day to the peace and tranquility of Boerum Hill while commuting to a job anywhere in the city.

The neighborhood is quite walkable and you can take the time to catch up with your neighbors while visiting on their stoops. Shopping on Atlantic Avenue is stress-free with no high pressure. You can meet with friends at any of the many coffee shops and while away pleasant hours in conversation. The dining scene on Smith Street is similarly laid-back. Don’t expect that there will be quite as much to see or do as there is in Manhattan, but there are a decent number of interesting bars and restaurants providing a measure of nightlife. The trade-off is worth it, as Boerum Hill provides a quiet, peaceful place to live and raise a family.
