Property Description for 1 Main Street, 4-H

Your waterfront oasis has arrived. Through the inviting foyer, the soaring 11' beamed ceilings frame a spacious environment which has been thoughtfully renovated. At apartment 4H, DUMBO loft living has been enhanced by custom crafted cabinetry and hardwood floors throughout, which artfully defines a flow of rooms while also maintaining a generous open plan in the living and dining spaces. The chef-friendly kitchen is delineated by a large island which is capped by a unique rounded endpiece. This detail provides an ideal surface for culinary preparation while entertaining in addition to casual dining options. The warm palette is completed with tiger maple cabinets. You will enjoy a suite of quality appliances: Subzero refrigerator and wine cooler, Thermador range and oven, and a Bosch dishwasher. A contiguous corner kitchen office nook allows for a variety of work applications convenient to the heart of the home. The living and dining areas flow outward and are perfect for hosting guests as well as spending quiet evenings at home. An arced wall of design-forward artisan cabinetry of alternating walnut and zebrawood panels offers a discreet entertainment center, a concealed bar, and generous storage options. This spacious living area is brightened by eight south and east facing oversized windows.

The king-sized primary bedroom is well-proportioned and airy. An ensuite bath includes a deep soaking whirlpool tub, and a marble vanity. The expansive walk-in closet offers organized storage within more handcrafted cabinets. The two secondary bedrooms are separated from the primary by a gallery hall. The larger of the two includes its own ensuite bath and three towering windows. The third bedroom is distinguished by a breathtaking view of the Manhattan bridge, and a floor to ceiling wall of storage cabinetry. This room has both an anterior portion and a sleeping area separated by a dramatic column. Unique details like this hint to the industrial history of the neighborhood. The reinforced concrete construction technique used in the iconic Clocktower building was pioneered by cardboard entrepreneur Robert Gair in 1904. The solidity of this building is inimitable.

The handsome Clocktower building is named for the iconic four-faced clocktower crown, which started keeping time in 1914. It is well situated within the heart of the DUMBO Historic District and was converted to residential use in 1998. The building's stately handpainted marble lobby provides an esteemed entrance. The Clocktower features 24-hour concierge service, friendly professional staff, an expansive roof deck, fitness center, residential storage, bike room, and low monthlies.

The location of this home is perfectly set just a few feet from world renowned Brooklyn Bridge Park, the historic Empire Stores, DUMBO House, St. Ann's Warehouse, Jane's Carousel, boutique shopping, notable restaurants, art galleries, top tier gyms, bookshops, creative and tech businesses. Plentiful transportation options abound nearby: F, A/C, 2/3 trains, the B25 bus, multiple Citibike stations, and the East River Ferry.

Dumbo | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

DUMBO, which is an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, used to be a lively industrial and manufacturing zone, full of large factories and warehouses. These buildings have now been converted into expansive lofts, theaters, galleries, and office spaces for start-up companies. These larger residential spaces are attractive to families and creative artists and writers who need space to dream and create.

DUMBO was named in 1978 as a sort of reverse marketing ploy to try to keep people from swarming into the area, attracted by the quaint tree-lined streets, elegant historic brownstones, large lofts, and views of Lower Manhattan. It was felt that this influx of people would change the nature of the neighborhood. It was hoped that by giving the area a ridiculous name, nobody would want to live there.

Many of the neighborhood’s bars, hotels, and restaurants capitalize on the stunning waterfront views and the Manhattan skyline in the background. Interesting and fun cultural events are held under and around the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges that connect DUMBO to Manhattan. One of these is the annual Oktoberfest.

With beautiful vignettes of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges being framed around every corner, DUMBO provides residents and tourists with charming, and often surprising, views. Because the neighborhood is eminently walkable and filled with unique shops, it feels like a small town on the edge of a major urban waterfront. Once people move to DUMBO, they tend to stay and become involved in the community.
