Property Description for 168 Plymouth Street, 6-E

Stunning 1,771-square foot converted loft home with two bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and an additional home office/guest room in the full-service 168 Plymouth Street, located in prime DUMBO.

168 Plymouth Street is the final loft conversion in DUMBO, consisting of two loft buildings-one brick-and-timber and the other concrete-that housed the Masury and Sons Paintworks Company since 1891. Converted to loft condominiums between 2019 and 2021, 168 Plymouth Street is unique with its private courtyard entrance, 24-hour concierge, and other amenities including a lobby lounge, bicycle storage room, and landscaped common roof deck and gym designed by La Palestra.

From its high-floor position in the "Round Arch" brick-and-timber building, Residence 6E has wonderful open exposures and light overlooking Jay Street to the east from most of the loft and a southern exposure from its home office/guest room. High ceilings and huge windows accentuate the light and views, and are complemented by beautifully restored longleaf pine beams, painted exposed brick, and new wide-plank oak floors.

The home's entry foyer opens into the expansive loft space, with an adjacent den to the left. The open RiFRA-designed kitchen and island face the large dining area, which is nicely centered between the two timber beams. The large and bright living room completes the open-plan layout, making for wonderful multi-zone entertaining.

The RiFRA kitchen features Miele appliances, a blackened Dornbracht faucet, porcelain stone countertops, and a bleached white oak island.

The primary bedroom easily fits a king-size bed and has a dressing room with two oversized walk-in closets. Enfilade is the spacious ensuite primary bath, featuring custom Haisa marble mosaic flooring, double showers with Dornbracht fixtures, large-format heather grey porcelain tiles, and a custom RiFRA bleached white oak vanity.

The second bedroom is quite large and has both a sizable walk-in closet and ensuite full bath with tub. Down a hallway to the right of the home's entry foyer are the third full bath, a utility closet with washer and dryer, and the perfect home office/guest room, which enjoys a southern exposure.

Central air and heating are throughout the home. There is an option rent the loft partially furnished with some of the current furnishings, as to be discussed.

Located on one of DUMBO's most prime and relaxed blocks, 168 Plymouth Street is surrounded by all of the neighborhood's world-famous amenities while also enjoying the tranquility of being a block or two removed from the neighborhood's more bustling streets. The building is one block from the waterfront John Street Park, which has some of the best views in the city and which connects to all of DUMBO's waterfront parks to the west. In addition to DUMBO's restaurants, shopping, and galleries, the building is proximate to the charming enclave of Vinegar Hill to the east.

The York Street F-train station is only three short blocks away.

Dumbo | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

DUMBO, which is an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, used to be a lively industrial and manufacturing zone, full of large factories and warehouses. These buildings have now been converted into expansive lofts, theaters, galleries, and office spaces for start-up companies. These larger residential spaces are attractive to families and creative artists and writers who need space to dream and create.

DUMBO was named in 1978 as a sort of reverse marketing ploy to try to keep people from swarming into the area, attracted by the quaint tree-lined streets, elegant historic brownstones, large lofts, and views of Lower Manhattan. It was felt that this influx of people would change the nature of the neighborhood. It was hoped that by giving the area a ridiculous name, nobody would want to live there.

Many of the neighborhood’s bars, hotels, and restaurants capitalize on the stunning waterfront views and the Manhattan skyline in the background. Interesting and fun cultural events are held under and around the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges that connect DUMBO to Manhattan. One of these is the annual Oktoberfest.

With beautiful vignettes of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges being framed around every corner, DUMBO provides residents and tourists with charming, and often surprising, views. Because the neighborhood is eminently walkable and filled with unique shops, it feels like a small town on the edge of a major urban waterfront. Once people move to DUMBO, they tend to stay and become involved in the community.
