Property Description for 119 80th Street

On a tree lined street, with manicured lawns dotted in the spring with cherry blossom petals, there is a house with a bay window, home for 70 years to a Professor of Engineering, the longest tenured professor at Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. Welcome to 119 80th Street, a beautifully preserved, pre-war, single-family home on a 26' by 118' lot. Central to the living room is a working fireplace, accented by custom built shelves. Beyond the living room is a formal dining room, which leads to an eat in kitchen.

Three bedrooms, on the second floor, plus a home office or bonus room on the first, make this a forever home. Off the primary bedroom is an expansive terrace. Two gems make this space truly special: a finished basement with wood paneling, an additional fireplace, full bathroom, separate laundry room with linen closet, and many closets for storage, and original wood floors on the first and second floors.Next to a tree in the backyard is a private garage. A nine-foot attic can be transformed into an ample living space.

Close to the park, subway, and the waterfront, located in prime Bay Ridge, a neighborhood that is a microcosm of New York City's culture and cuisine, make this the best of many worlds, the ideal suburban home in the city.

Bay Ridge | Brooklyn

Lush front yards and trimmed hedges are pretty common in Bay Ridge.

Quick Profile

Bay Ridge is an old-world neighborhood neatly tucked into the southwest corner of Brooklyn within the shadows of the Verrazano Bridge. The neighborhood is encircled by the Belt Parkway along the shore line and the Gowanus Expressway inland.

Bay Ridge, long known for its generational pull, has historically been home to a diverse number of ethnic groups. While the area is flush with people of Irish, Italian and Greek descent, these ethnic communities have been joined by larger numbers of new groups, including people with Russian, Polish, Asian and Middle Eastern backgrounds. The Arab American community today in Bay Ridge represents the largest concentration of Arab Americans in New York City.

For many years, Bay Ridge and its waterside location, would attract the affluent. But most of the mansions that once lined Shore Road are long gone and have been replaced by six-story apartment buildings.

Aside from the low-rise apartment buildings, the neighborhood pretty much consists of one and two-family homes. Lush front yards and trimmed hedges are pretty common here.

Current zoning and limitations on building heights restrict any out of the norm development. At present, the future beholds small development on some of the commercial strips and teardowns of older homes for smaller residential projects.
