Property Description for 1168 Halsey Street

Originally built in 1925, 1168 Halsey St has been newly constructed to seamlessly blend high-end finishes, modern technology, and impeccable details, paying homage to its rich history. This impressive two-family townhouse spans 18 feet wide, boasting 5 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, 2 powder rooms, a spacious parlor deck, and an expansive backyard garden. From wide plank oak floors to a full-glass back and a built-in sound system, every corner of this meticulously designed home exudes careful attention to detail. Upon entering the owner’s three-bedroom duplex, you are welcomed by a thoughtfully curated foyer. The 45-foot parlor reveals a spacious open floor plan flooded with natural light, featuring a formal living room area for entertaining, a large dining area, and a well-appointed powder room. The kitchen, complete with a four-seat island, custom cabinetry, and quartz countertops, opens to a large deck through oversized French doors. Equipped with top-of-the-line Bosch appliances, including an integrated refrigerator, six-burner stove, integrated dishwasher, and pot filler, this kitchen is a chef’s dream. The upper level houses three bedrooms and two full baths, bathed in natural sunlight from three strategically placed skylights. The elegant, south-facing primary bedroom overlooks the serene backyard gardens and offers two large closets. The primary bath features blue ceramic tiled floors, a double vanity, a glass-enclosed shower, and a freestanding deep soaking bathtub. Two additional comfortable bedrooms share a second ceramic tiled bathroom. The private basement, accessible via an interior staircase, is finished with textured tile floors, a powder room, high ceilings, and split AC units, offering the flexibility to be transformed into a playroom, home office, or artist studio. Additionally, the separate garden floor two-bedroom unit has a washer/dryer and can be an income-producing property or in-law apartment. This masterfully re-imagined townhouse is situated in the heart of Bushwick, just moments away from renowned dining establishments such as Money Cat, Irving General, and Father Knows Best, as well as several local parks including Irving Square Park. Convenient access to public transportation, including the L or J/M trains, and a short 20-minute drive to JFK Airport, further enhance the desirability of this exceptional property.

Bushwick | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

As one of the most diverse neighborhoods in New York, Bushwick offers a perfect snapshot of just how multicultural the city is. Long-established as an amalgam of cultures and ethnicities, a wave of varying types of immigrants trickled in from the seventeenth to twentieth centuries, with Bushwick largely becoming a home to Hispanics of Puerto Rican and Dominican backgrounds by the latter part of the twentieth century.

With the Bushwick Initiative of the mid-00s that aided in revitalization, it became an attractive area to young professionals and artists. And even now, Bushwick has sustained affordable rent prices where other North Brooklyn counterparts, like Williamsburg and Greenpoint, have become more expensive. Priding itself on the weird and the wacky, numerous art collectives thrive in this part of Brooklyn, once famously named the seventh coolest neighborhood in the world by Vogue.

Though it has drawn in many tourists in recent years (there’s even a graffiti tour you can take from the Bushwick Collective), the neighborhood remains very much community-oriented, and has not been subject to quite the same sort of corporate infiltration phenomenon of its nearby Williamsburg environs.

But yes, of course, Bushwick has come a very long way from its 80s and 90s reputation as being “The Well,” a nickname given to it for its free-flowing and widely available amount of drugs (quantity over quality being the cliche applied here).
