Built in 1966, 870 UN Plaza was designed by master architects Wallace Harrison & Max Abramovitz, the lead architects responsible for conceiving the United Nations Headquarters complex and other iconic buildings like Time-Life at Rockefeller Center and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The UN Plaza, comprised of two 38 story towers, offers residents incomparable amenities such as doorman/concierge service, an attentive staff, fully-equipped gym with Pilates studio, 4 sundecks with 360 degree views of the city, a well-stocked library, lounge with a catering kitchen and bar, game/rec room with golf simulator, parking garage, and private full-block circular drive at the 49th Street exit from the FDR Drive.

The building's prime location right by the UN and East River is also adjacent to the MacArthur children's playground, and across the street from the Peter Detmold Park dog park (yes, pets are allowed).

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
