Property Description for 516 Wilson Ave, 1

Situated on the parlor level of this two family home and directly across from Irving Square Park in Bushwick, this spacious 1,000 square foot, floor-through apartment has five rooms, two bedrooms, a separate kitchen and plenty of storage space. The windowed kitchen was recently renovated with white cabinetry, energy efficient appliances and tile flooring. There is space to accommodate a breakfast bar setup and a pantry for dry goods. The bathroom is down the hallway from the kitchen and off of the living/dining area. It has a dual tub/shower, new vanity and a built-in hamper for your worn clothing. There are two egresses into the apartment from both the hallway and the living room. The living room is extra large with views looking onto the park across the street from a bay window, which additionally allows natural light to stream into the space. An alcove room adjacent to the living room is ideal for a formal dining area or home office. Both bedrooms are nicely sized to allow for whatever bedroom set you might prefer. The main bedroom is located at the rear of the house, looking onto the garden, and has coffered ceilings, which is just one of the historic original details remaining in this 100 year old house. Heat and hot water are included. Laundry is located just one street over. The building is near to public transit including the L and J trains, as well as bus transportation along Wilson Ave.

Bushwick | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

As one of the most diverse neighborhoods in New York, Bushwick offers a perfect snapshot of just how multicultural the city is. Long-established as an amalgam of cultures and ethnicities, a wave of varying types of immigrants trickled in from the seventeenth to twentieth centuries, with Bushwick largely becoming a home to Hispanics of Puerto Rican and Dominican backgrounds by the latter part of the twentieth century.

With the Bushwick Initiative of the mid-00s that aided in revitalization, it became an attractive area to young professionals and artists. And even now, Bushwick has sustained affordable rent prices where other North Brooklyn counterparts, like Williamsburg and Greenpoint, have become more expensive. Priding itself on the weird and the wacky, numerous art collectives thrive in this part of Brooklyn, once famously named the seventh coolest neighborhood in the world by Vogue.

Though it has drawn in many tourists in recent years (there’s even a graffiti tour you can take from the Bushwick Collective), the neighborhood remains very much community-oriented, and has not been subject to quite the same sort of corporate infiltration phenomenon of its nearby Williamsburg environs.

But yes, of course, Bushwick has come a very long way from its 80s and 90s reputation as being “The Well,” a nickname given to it for its free-flowing and widely available amount of drugs (quantity over quality being the cliche applied here).
