Property Description for 19 Downing Street

As seen in the New York Times, 19 Downing Street is a masterfully designed townhouse with interiors by BKSK, which earned an American Architecture Prize for Interior Design.
Originally built in the 1880's, this Greek revival townhouse features four oversized bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, and three outdoor spaces, ideally located at the crossroads of the West Village, SoHo, and Greenwich Village.
Upon entering, you'll be enchanted by the home's original charm, seamlessly modernized with thoughtful updates. The foyer doubles as a mudroom, with floor-to-ceiling double sliding doors that can close off the space. You'll also find a large coat closet, a discreet powder room, as well as a concealable custom-built home office with floor to ceiling multi-slide doors.
With its soaring 11-foot ceilings, the main living area-the nexus of this home-has a loft-like quality with an open floor plan connecting living room, dining room, and kitchen, centered by an elegant fireplace. The kitchen features a Miele appliance suite, electric blinds, heated flooring, and a floor-to-ceiling folding glass wall that opens to the terrace, making al fresco dining effortless. Another unique twist is the skylight that doubles as the glass block floor for the terrace above. This feature provides the kitchen with natural light by day, while the kitchen lights illuminate the terrace flooring above by night.
The modern staircase features dark wood and metal, along with a delicate woven leather railing detail. At the top of the first landing, you will find the inviting den/media room, anchored by a charming fireplace. Perfect for casual indoor-outdoor gatherings, this room features built-in bookcases and a wet bar with a fridge and dishwasher. The rotating glass doors open to the terrace with a built-in banquet nestled under a greenery-filled trellis. Continuing from this room, past more bookshelves, a full bathroom, and a linen closet leads to the first of four bedrooms, featuring a large walk-in closet and a beautiful fireplace.
The third floor features two well-appointed bedrooms, each with custom closets and shelving, as well as ensuite bathrooms. The north-facing bedroom overlooks serene townhouse gardens, while the south-facing bedroom enjoys treetop views of Downing Street.
One flight up, the full-floor primary suite offers size and privacy, flooded with natural light. It features custom-built closets, a wide hallway illuminated by skylights, and a luxurious primary bathroom with dual vanities, custom storage, radiant floor heating, and a glass-enclosed steam shower. But it's the beautiful fireplace and deep-soaking claw-foot tub that complete this room as a romantic sanctuary.
The rooftop terrace is designed for exceptional outdoor living, with areas for sitting, dining, and entertaining amidst a garden, offering sweeping views of West Village rooftops and One World Trade Center. The outdoor kitchen includes a fridge, ice maker, and propane-fueled Ooni Koda pizza oven, while an electric retractable awning provides protection from the elements.
The finished basement includes a thermo-regulated wine cellar laundry room, a vented washer and dryer, and a large cedar-lined closet for garment storage. This exceptional home also features modern comfort with a multi-zone temperature control system and a security camera system, along with an integrated Sonos sound system for high-quality audio throughout.

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
