Property Description for 5 Tudor City Place, PH-5

Rarely available triplex Penthouse with its very own private roof terrace located in an iconic Tudor City landmark tower. Penthouse 5 is a truly spectacular home with soaring 15-foot casement windows overlooking the dramatic midtown skyline. In fact, the apartment is most famous for being “The Green Goblin’s Lair” in all three Spiderman movies. The Great Room’s dramatic scale features 18-foot ceilings and 15-foot casement windows with spectacular unobstructed midtown views including the Chrysler Building. The oversized 1920s era wood-burning fireplace was remodeled to match the original mantel mirror and original molds, and there are herringbone wood floors throughout. There is also a powder room downstairs. The elegant, wrapping hand-painted cast iron staircase brings you to the upper level. The second level has the renovated kitchen with GE appliances (over-the-range microwave, gas range, dishwasher), and LG washer/dryer unit. There is a dining gallery adjacent the kitchen that overlooks the Great Room and the oversized casement windows (currently used as a study). The bedroom features two custom built-out walk-in closets as well as two additional linen closets and an en-suite marble bathroom. The bathroom vanity has hand-painted countertops, 2 hand-carved Venetian mirrors, chrome and crystal fixtures, a deep soaking tub, and a heated towel rack. A nearly 300 sqft private space is a perfect oasis in the sky, with plenty of room for dining, sunbathing, gardening, and more. The iconic 5 Tudor City Place (Windsor Tower) erected in 1929 is a white glove cooperative located just blocks from the heart of Midtown, Grand Central Station, with easy access to get both uptown and downtown. The building features a full-time doorman, a live-in resident manager, a 2,000-square-foot fitness center, central laundry room, and bicycle/storage rooms. Pets, pied a terres, co-purchasing, all allowed.

Tudor City | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Compared to other New York City neighborhoods Tudor City is a bit different. For starters, it's not very big. And technically it's not a neighborhood, it's more along the lines of a residential enclave of Tudor style buildings and parks. Even with the large neon sign boldly exclaiming the enclave's name, Tudor CIty is still a little tricky to find.

Located on the southern edge of Turtle Bay, Tudor City borders Murray Hill and lies on a low cliff which is just east of Second Avenue between 40th and 43rd Street. It overlooks the grounds of the United Nations along First Avenue and the East River beyond.

Tudor City is considered one of the world’s first skyscraper apartment complexes. This was considered a remarkable feat in 1929. Early marketing material, aimed at the middle class, described the development as well-planned, well-built, and well-priced housing. Developer Fred F. Finch designed Tudor City to keep middle class residents in Manhattan as many were fleeing the city for the suburbs.
