Property Description for 215 West 138th Street, 1

Located in the heart of Strivers Row, this iconic townhouse triplex unit at 215 W 138th St. combines an immaculate modern renovation with timeless original detail, embodying the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance and its storied residents - whose number this four-bedroom, three-bathroom, 2,458 sf residence residence invites you to join! The monthly rent is $8,500 per month - or, if you would appreciate having your own bespoke parking space in the adjoining 2 car garage, the rent will be $9,000.

Entering the house, you'll arrive in the high-ceilinged parlor floor, 893 sf in all. From the gathering-friendly living room, you'll walk past an extended eating bar and into a spacious chef's kitchen, complete with an oversized quartz-counter island facing a vintage decorative fireplace. At the kitchen's heart is a six burner Bertazzoni range and side-by-side fridge, with a Bertazzoni dishwasher and microwave, as well. A colorfully-tiled, windowed bathroom is beyond, featuring a walk-in shower with room for you and a friend!

Ascending the grand staircase, you'll arrive at the full-floor master suite occupying the entire second floor - with an oversized, high-ceilinged master bedroom, a huge pass-through master bathroom, featuring a double sink, touch-control lighted mirror, and an elegant shower with multiple shower heads. Just beyond is a light-filled study or a second bedroom, or the best home office you could desire, featuring a decorative fireplace, full-sized closet, and oversized windows.

Finally, the third floor has two or three additional bedrooms, depending upon how you deploy the pocket doors in the front area, another full bathroom, and a large capacity washer and dryer.

In addition to providing a perfect living and work-at-home environment, the townhouse triplex at 215 W 138th St. affords its residents convenient and quick access to all of Manhattan educational institutions, parks, theaters, restaurants, and, yes, even downtown offices - thanks to close-by bus and subway transportation, Uber and Lyft, plus Citi bikes for the adventurous - and, as mentioned, your own personal automobile, parked securely in own dedicated space, if you so choose.

If all this sounds like something you might like to get used to - please call and come take a look! AND, if an additional duplex garden-level suite might be a welcome addition to your new home - that might not be an impossible dream, either, so feel free to ask.

Harlem | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The neighborhood called West Harlem by the locals is known as Manhattanville to neighborhood newcomers. The area is culturally diverse and might be considered a microcosm of the city as a whole.

Columbia University has recently expanded into the area, which is attracting student residents from all over the world. Together with students from the City College of New York and young professionals fleeing higher prices in other neighborhoods, this influx of younger residents has brought with it more restaurants and bars on W 125th Street to serve this clientele. There are also new ventures, like a rock-climbing gym, to cater to the interests of these students and young professionals. At the same time, there are many small, family-owned shops and restaurants that have been anchors of the neighborhood for multiple generations.

The area has been through a housing upgrade, as older properties have been renovated and abandoned properties have been razed to make room for new development. There are still reasonably priced apartments available. Young professionals are finding that there is a certain cachet to living in West Harlem. It provides a convenient commute to the city and all of its amenities, while providing a sense of escape at the end of a long work day.

While rentals are popular with the student population, the young professionals are delighted to find pre-war brownstones, pre-war co-ops (including some income-capped HDFCs for lower- and middle-income buyers), and post-war condos that they can afford, although prices are rising. Some new low-rise developments, sporting virtual doormen and desired amenities, are cropping up.
