Featuring a four-bedroom, two-and-a-half owner's duplex, a one-bedroom garden apartment and a beautiful backyard, this ideally located Hancock Street haven is the perfect opportunity for buyers seeking additional rental income, multigenerational living space or the opportunity to easily create a grand single-family townhouse.

A classic high stoop and vestibule entry welcome you into the owner's unit, where soaring ceilings rise above herringbone hardwood floors and ornate moldings and millwork. From the stately foyer, pocket doors open to a spacious and inviting living room of over 26 feet long. This gracious space has soaring ceilings, large north-facing windows with a stained glass transom, a modern ceiling fan, and gorgeous trim. Another set of pocket doors open to the sunny gourmet kitchen and a dining room as well as a southern bay window overlooking the rear garden, the perfect place to sit and enjoy your first coffee of the day. The open kitchen boasts tasteful walnut and white cabinetry, marble counters and backsplash and stainless steel GE Profile appliances, including a gas cooktop, wall oven, dishwasher, and built-in microwave. Kitchen features also include a reverse osmosis water filter, garbage disposal and light fixtures from Allied Maker and RBW. A chic powder room with vibrant wallpaper completes the gracious main level. Outside, an ipe deck and fenced south-facing yard make al fresco entertaining irresistible and raised beds allow for your urban farm dreams to flourish.

The handsome staircase ushers you to the top floor, where the primary suite offers a king-size layout, a bay window and two roomy closets. Retreat to the skylit en suite bathroom to enjoy a walk-in rain shower finished with tadelact plaster, custom floating vanity and Fireclay tile, as well as radiant heated floors. Three more bedrooms on this level provide plenty of space for friends, family and home office space alongside another skylit full bathroom with vibrant tile and a soaking tub/shower. An upstairs washer-dryer makes laundry day a breeze. The upper duplex is fully fit out with split A/C units throughout.

Professionally sound insulated from the floors above, the garden apartment impresses with spectacular original details. The spacious living room leads into an oversized and well appointed kitchen with excellent cabinet space and a full suite of stainless steel appliances. A full bathroom with shower stall and a bedroom leads to a small outdoor area, currently dedicated to the garden unit. A large cellar provides for substantial storage, and an additional vented washer-dryer adds convenience to this turn-of-the-century Brooklyn brownstone.

This convenient tree-lined Beford-Stuyvesant location combines residential tranquility and outstanding accessibility thanks to fantastic shopping, dining and nightlife venues in every direction, including local favorites Peaches, Saraghina, Lovers Rock, Bed-Vyne Brew and more. Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
