1357 Union Street is a masterfully designed 20' wide, 47' deep single-family brick townhouse, 5 blocks from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Featuring 3 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, it is nestled on a picturesque block in Crown Heights that is lined with limestone townhouses, just two blocks to the 2 & 5 trains at President Street or the 3 train at Nostrand. With a perfect balance of modern design, historic preservation, and comfort, this home offers an expansive, sunny space to live, work, grow and entertain.

The entire home is equipped with central heat and air, with radiators offering additional warmth on chilly winter days. The layout is traditional yet offers many options, with bedrooms on the top floor and a grand living room and kitchen on the parlor level. The garden level has a separate entrance and backyard access, making it more versatile than others.

Set back from the street, you're greeted by a charming front patio. Step up the front stoop into a double door vestibule that retains pristine original details, including ceramic tiles and the original hand carved details, and a solid wooden entrance door with a recessed drop-down door sweep.

On the parlor floor, soaring 10.2 ft ceilings create a dramatic sense of light and space, while intricate original details have been carefully restored. The original floors, a decorative fireplace, and molding remain intact and have been modernized. Planter boxes are installed in the bay windows, giving your plants a place to thrive in the sun. The living room- 30 feet deep- offers space for multiple seating areas, ideal for both intimate gatherings and larger events.

Original pocket doors open to the dining room, where you'll find another decorative fireplace, bay windows, and a sense of grandeur that invites you into the rear wing of the home. The kitchen, featuring stylish exposed brick, open shelving, and full-sized appliances, is a chef's dream with plenty of storage and counter space. Step out into the lush, peaceful backyard, which has been beautifully landscaped with Moroccan-style tiles, a built-in bench, and a maple tree, creating a serene retreat perfect for relaxing or al fresco dining.

A stained glass skylight draws you up to the second floor, where you'll find three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. The primary suite spans the entire width of the home. This spacious and sun-filled room features a decorative fireplace, bay windows and three closets plus a walk-in. A luxurious en-suite bathroom has a linen closet, tiled walk-in shower, double sinks and a towel warming rack. Crown Heights | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Originally known as Crown Hill by the Lenape Indians that lived there, Crown Heights has evolved into a diverse neighborhood, occupied primarily by Hasidic Jews and one of the largest Caribbean populations to be found anywhere outside of the West Indies.

Head over to Nostrand Avenue, one of the main West Indian commercial areas in the neighborhood, which is lined with stores that have been in those exact same places for generations, providing their goods and services to area residents. Kingston Avenue has similar commercial activities that support the Jewish community, and Franklin Avenue shows the most signs of change and gentrification, with an ever-expanding mix of yoga studios, coffee shops, and organic grocery stores that serve the influx of young professionals. No matter which of these areas you visit, you will find an interesting mix of businesses that you wouldn’t normally picture as existing side-by-side. It is all part of the cultural diversity of Crown Heights.

The neighborhood is bisected, from east to west, by Eastern Parkway, which is a beautiful, 3-mile-long boulevard lined with mature trees. This leafy oasis was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famed designer of Central Park, the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, and the U. S. Capitol in Washington, D. C.

You will find a mix of low-rise apartment buildings, large middle-class elevator buildings, brownstones, and some luxury buildings. Century-old architecture stands next to modern residential developments in a visually interesting mix of styles, much as the diversity of the residents exists. People who would not normally meet and mix are forging new pathways to cultural understanding by working, living, and playing together in the same neighborhood.
