Property Description for 59 West 12th Street, 10-A

Ensconced in a gem of the acclaimed Emery Roth / Bing & Bing pre-war condominiums of Greenwich Village, Apartment 10A is a spacious and sun-filled one-bedroom home, redolent of the glamour of Art Deco Hollywood and New York City-imbued with the celebrated ease and flexibility of condominium ownership.

You'll know you've arrived somewhere special when greeted by the formal central foyer with its inlaid stone floor, ebony lacquer detailing, and graceful archway leading into the stunning living room. Gracious enough to comfortably accommodate a 1912 Model A Steinway grand piano, dining for 6-8, a lounge area for relaxing or entertaining, and even a discreet home office-this nearly 20-foot square room offers bright north and east city views through a triple window bay.

For chilly evenings and effortless ambiance, the alabaster wood-burning fireplace with creamy stone hearth serves as the heart of this beautiful home-a rare feature no longer offered in today's newly built residences.

The windowed kitchen is filled with natural light and city views, including the spire of the Empire State Building. Outfitted with stainless steel LG, GE, and Bosch appliances, solid wood custom cabinetry, and oversized granite countertops, it offers abundant storage and workspace-a truly functional kitchen for the home chef.

The king-sized corner primary suite is serene and luxurious, generously proportioned with charming sunset Village views and an oversized walk-in closet-evocative of a suite at The Carlyle. The windowed bathroom is tiled in stunning Shai sandstone and features the original deep soaking tub, pedestal sink, and Lefroy Brooks polished nickel fittings in a timeless, pale neutral palette.

Additional features include custom track lighting, a pre-wired speaker system, original hardwood floors throughout, and iconic Roth / Bing & Bing doors and hardware. A touch of vintage glam remains in the entry foyer's walk-in closet, where the original mirror and hat pin tray still reside. At 59 West 12th Street-on one of the Village's most sought-after blocks-you step back in time to a gentler, grander New York of 1931. The marble-clad lobby and 24-hour doorman offer a warm welcome after a day in the city. This highly desirable condominium also features a resident superintendent, bike storage, personal storage (waitlisted), a laundry room, and a playroom.

A major refurbishment of the building's exterior has recently been completed, ensuring its prominence for years to come. With low common charges, pet-friendly policies, and permissive pied-a-terre and sublet rules-look no further. You've arrived.

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
