Property Description for 148 West 23rd Street, 2/3K

If you are looking for a striking space with magazine-worthy style and a true downtown soul, welcome to this one-of-a-kind 2 Bed, 1.5 Bath duplex loft in the iconic Chelsea Mews - a truly special home that marries high design with historic character in the heart of Chelsea.

Published in Dwell magazine and meticulously renovated by architect Dale Reidl, this showstopper of a home offers a dramatic sense of space with soaring 12-foot ceilings, oversized windows, and designer finishes throughout. The bright and airy living room is equal parts chic and serene, and is large enough to comfortably accommodate a dining room and separate living room space. The sleek chef's kitchen is a dream for culinary creatives, complete with top-of-the-line appliances including a Wolf range, Sub-Zero fridge, and Miele oven, microwave and dishwasher, along with abundant custom storage solutions. The main floor also features a beautifully renovated powder room.

A sculptural floating staircase - accented with under-mounted lighting and crowned by a striking Lucas Peet chandelier - leads you to the upper level, where expansive high ceilings continue the lofted elegance. Upstairs you will find two bedrooms, both boasting generous proportions and built-out closets, another large hallway storage closet, and a beautifully renovated spa-like white marble bathroom offering a clean, calming retreat.

Chelsea Mews is a beloved, established pet-friendly co-op with full-service amenities including a 24-hour doorman, live-in super, renovated lobby, laundry on every floor, beautifully landscaped and recently updated roof deck with panoramic views of Hudson Yards and the Empire State Building, and bicycle room. Perfectly situated at the nexus of Chelsea and Flatiron, you are moments from multiple subway and bus lines (1, C, E. F, M, Path Train and crosstown Select bus service), Madison Square Park, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Eataly, and some of downtown's best dining, galleries, and nightlife.

Co-purchasing, subletting, guarantors, and parents buying for children are all welcome with board approval.

All measurements and square footages are approximate and all information should be confirmed by customer. All showings including open houses by appointment must be scheduled in advance. Please inquire within to confirm your appointment.

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
