Property Description for 170 Second Ave, 6-B

Enjoy spectacular light and views from this renovated corner two-bedroom “classic five” home situated on the fifth floor of 170 Second Avenue, the East Village's preeminent full service cooperative at the corner of 11th Street. This refined home is a modern classic -- its renovations respect the character of this historic 1929 building, while bringing it up-to-date, replacing plumbing and electricity, and choosing new fixtures that marry the historic period to today's aesthetic. With ten windows, this sun-filled home overlooks historic St. Mark's Church to the west and reveals the Empire State Building and treetop views to the north.

The residence centers on a large entry gallery. The expansive 24’ living room overlooks the landmarked church and showcases this home's pre-war details: refinished original oak parquet flooring and beamed ceilings with exquisite crown moldings. Wall to wall bookcases with integrated lighting run the entire length of the room. The full size dining room is accessed through a set of French doors of the foyer and features dramatic views of the Empire State Building, the city skyline and tree-lined 11th Street through two large windows. The adjacent windowed kitchen boasts uniquely patterned tile floor and backsplash, stainless steel counter with ceramic farm sink, 18” Miele dishwasher, stainless steel bottom freezer refrigerator, industrial stainless steel range, and those same Empire State Building views

Also off the central foyer is the hallway that leads to the bedroom quarters. The spacious corner primary bedroom is flooded with light and faces both west over the church and north towards the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings and the majestic city skyline. It boasts two closets, including one original cedar lined closet. The adjacent windowed mosaic-tiled bathroom features the original reglazed 5.5-foot cast iron soaking tub, Lefroy Brooks fixtures, a large separate shower with rain shower head and jets, marble topped apothecary sink, and double medicine cabinets with marble interiors. The large secondary bedroom overlooks the church and has an ensuite powder room.

Other highlights of this prewar jewel include, nine-foot ceiling heights throughout, original wood doors and crystal doorknobs, spacious coat and linen closets, and Bosch stacked washer and dryer.

170 Second Avenue has a recently restored majestic lobby with terrazzo floors, brass chandeliers, Art Deco murals and mahogany-paneled elevators. The building is impeccably maintained by a wonderful full-time staff, including a live-in superintendent, porters, and 24-hour doorman. Amenities include central laundry, storage and bike rooms. It is located near fantastic restaurants, Union Square, Astor Place, Tompkins Square Park, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and public transportation.

East Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The East Village has two distinct moods. By day, it is quiet and peaceful. Everyone is out and about, either working or relaxing at Tompkins Square Park, strolling or jogging along the East River, or hanging out in one of the subsets of cultural activity, such as St. Mark’s Place.

But then night falls, and the East Village comes to life, keeping the entertainment and nightlife going long after the other neighborhoods have called it quits for the night. People from all five boroughs flock to the dive bars and speakeasies, head for their favorite cafes and restaurants, or drop in to a music venue to listen to hot tunes or cool jazz and dance the night away. Don’t worry, you don’t have to “know somebody” to gain admittance to even the most popular venues. You won’t find velvet ropes, bouncers, or and a waiting list at the door of most places. Just walk right in and enjoy yourself.

Be prepared for the increased population during fall through spring, when NYU is in session. College students will be everywhere, contributing to the youthful essense of the neighborhood.
