Property Description for 139 West 13th Street, 4

Unit 4 at 139 West 13th Street is a rarely available penthouse duplex perched atop a charming, tree-lined block, offering a serene escape in one of Manhattan's most coveted neighborhoods.

Once featured in Architectural Digest, this three-bedroom, two living area, two-bathroom home has been thoughtfully renovated and designed to respect the history of the 25'-wide, 19th-century Greek Revival brick building that it sits in. As you enter unit 4, you are welcomed into a large and open kitchen, living, and dining set-up. This inviting space has three large south-facing mullioned picture windows that overlook West 13th Street as well as a wood-burning fireplace with an electric extractor fan. Just a step away, the windowed kitchen adds a layer of warmth thanks to its Brazilian marble waterfall island, matching backsplash and black farmhouse sink, rich in color. There are brand new high-end Miele appliances, including a refrigerator, oven with vented hood, five-burner stovetop, and dishwasher. One could not ask for a more ideal entertaining space.

Nestled towards the back of the home on this same level is the primary bedroom which was renovated to include a new built-in headboard and drapery. A full bathroom is located right off of this bedroom in addition to a dedicated closet housing the high-capacity in-unit washer and vented gas dryer. A second bedroom, currently serving as a dedicated dressing room for the primary bedroom complete with a high-capacity custom built in closet, puts the finishing touches to this wing.

The upper level of this charming pre-war duplex residence consists of a second living room space, a guest bedroom, home office with built in shelving and desk, walk in closet and full bathroom. The living room features new millwork complemented by a stunning carved alabaster lighting fixture, a built-in media unit with complementary shelving, and beautiful south facing glass French doors leading straight onto the 300SF private roof deck, a truly defining feature of this unique property. This open, south-facing landscaped outdoor space comfortably allows for a split lounge and dining arrangement. There is automatic water reticulation of all of the lush planter boxes and pots. This idyllic retreat overlooks countless trees and the neighboring picturesque townhomes lining West 13th Street, and is simply a delight for the eye.

Additional recent upgrades done to the home include new dimmable LED lighting and A/C units throughout as well as new HiFi speaker wiring, privacy blinds, carpeting, ambiently backlit handrail along the stairs and installation of clever storage.

Please note that any incoming purchaser may have the rare opportunity to transform the upper rooftop into an additional private deck and garden oasis, with board approval. 139 West 13th Street is an intimate and well-run co-op originally built in 1910. Right in the heart of the West Village, you are just a stone's throw away from top dining and shopping, cultural institutions, and several public transportation lines. Pied-a-terre ownership is permitted, and pets are welcome on a case-by-case basis. This is a two-flight walk-up.

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
