Property Description for 518 East 11th Street, 4-A

518 East 11th Street is a well-maintained boutique pre-war co-op building on a quiet, historic and centrally located East Village block. Designed thoughtfully by the current owner, the home has served as a respite for artists and a gathering place for thinkers over the past year-and-a-half. It was designed with this purpose in mind, and as a result, is tranquil and self-contained. Imbued with the sensibility of a library or gallery, it is peaceful, spacious and enables deep thought and comfort. Centered on the ability to gather in the space, enter the home into an open living and dining room, where a custom-built dining table is installed and demonstrates the ability to easily seat 12+ guests for dinner. At the north end of the home, a custom lounge abuts lovely built-in bookshelves. Two north-facing windows allow a tranquil and consistent light in. The room is framed by beautiful, meticulously built crown mouldings and an additional window, peeking east, allows for more natural light and a quintessential East Village view. Two bedrooms, one with two windows facing north and a second with a window facing west, share a classic windowed bathroom with tub and vanity. The kitchen, also with window, is Judd-esk - built with commercial appliances and simple timber. There's ample storage, a Wolf range and a dishwasher. Elegant meals for 20 or more have been prepared in the space in past; it has everything you need. The installation of artworks, furniture, and decorative objects in the home strike a balance between respect for the historic nature of the building and neighborhood and the current owner's approach to architecture and design. The incoming owner will benefit from the same. 518 East 11th Street is a 6-story 13-unit co-op building one block north of Tompkins Square. There is a video intercom system, bike storage and laundry on every floor (shared on the 4th floor with only one neighbor).

East Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The East Village has two distinct moods. By day, it is quiet and peaceful. Everyone is out and about, either working or relaxing at Tompkins Square Park, strolling or jogging along the East River, or hanging out in one of the subsets of cultural activity, such as St. Mark’s Place.

But then night falls, and the East Village comes to life, keeping the entertainment and nightlife going long after the other neighborhoods have called it quits for the night. People from all five boroughs flock to the dive bars and speakeasies, head for their favorite cafes and restaurants, or drop in to a music venue to listen to hot tunes or cool jazz and dance the night away. Don’t worry, you don’t have to “know somebody” to gain admittance to even the most popular venues. You won’t find velvet ropes, bouncers, or and a waiting list at the door of most places. Just walk right in and enjoy yourself.

Be prepared for the increased population during fall through spring, when NYU is in session. College students will be everywhere, contributing to the youthful essense of the neighborhood.
