Property Description for 870 United Nations Plaza, 31/32F

Mid-Century Modern Time Capsule With Awe Inspiring Views From Every Room

Expansive views of the East River, United Nations, and both Manhattan and Brooklyn skylines welcome you to this very special duplex apartment in original condition from 1966. Master architects Harrison & Abramovitz, also the lead architects for The United Nations complex and Lincoln Center, designed 870 and 860 UN Plaza, which continue to be one of the most important modernist buildings in the country. This apartment, 31/32F, was purchased by the family when the building was built and has remained how it was originally conceived ever since. A true testament to great mid-century modern design.

The rooms are all well-proportioned and spacious, especially the first floor public rooms which include a living room and dining room measuring in excess of 43" in combined length, and the 15" entry gallery with its glamorous curved staircase and ever so important wet bar for entertaining. The kitchen is large, with original finishes, and has a separate staircase to the upper level and an adjacent laundry room with sink. In addition to the 2 staircases, there is a private elevator connecting the two floors.

Upstairs are 4 bedrooms including a very large primary suite with dressing room, and bathroom with double sinks and separate tub and shower. The other 3 bedrooms each have a private bathroom and there is tremendous closet and storage space both in the bedrooms and in the adjacent corridor. The upper floor also has an entrance to the building elevators and common hallway. There is central A/C and heat, and a private storage is included with the sale.

870 UN Plaza is a top full service building boasting a full time staff of doormen, lobby attendants, concierge, resident manager, and offers valet dry cleaning. There is an amazing fitness center, Pilates studio, golf simulator, resident lounge with catering kitchen, and multiple sundecks with helicopter category views. The building has a private driveway and resident garage, and a bike room. Pets are permitted, with board approval, as is trust ownership.

The monthly maintenance charge includes electricity and window washing. Showings by appointment.

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
