Property Description for 966 Bergen Street

966 Bergen is an exemplary single-family masterpiece in Crown Heights, offering 5,164 square feet across five full floors-all accessible by elevator. Built 20 feet wide by 60 feet deep on a 128.5-foot lot, this home is massive inside and out. It features a great room on the second floor, 5 bedrooms, 3 full and 2 half bathrooms, and a penthouse party room with two roof decks.

The home opens with a double-door entry into a spacious foyer with a large coat closet, welcoming you into a beautiful living room anchored by a built-in fireplace framed in elegant stone. The entire first level features radiant heated floors.

Beyond the powder room and elevator lies a luxurious, high-performance kitchen-a curated culinary space designed for entertaining with elegance. It includes a built-in Sub-Zero refrigerator, a dual-fuel range with gas burners and electric ovens, and a large wine fridge. A large center island anchors the space, providing generous prep surfaces, storage, and seating. The main sink is located on one side of the island, while a second sink sits in the dedicated bar area, which also features a built-in microwave and is positioned next to the refrigerator and flanked by proper pantry cabinets.

Natural light floods the kitchen through a dramatic double-height wall of windows that stretches from the floor, past the mezzanine of the great room, to the top of the second floor. A striking pendant light and open mezzanine enhance the sense of volume. Even more impressive, the kitchen opens directly to the large backyard with a sunken seating area-currently all the rage according to Architectural Digest. A built-in fire pit, pre-wired speakers, electrical outlets, and a water spigot make this outdoor oasis the retreat you need.

The great room itself, located on the second floor, lives up to its name with voluminous proportions, multiple lounging and entertaining zones, and breathtaking backyard views through the two-story windows. A powder room and mezzanine complete this level, perfect for anything from movie nights to yoga classes.

The third floor is home to a stunning primary suite with a private covered terrace, an enormous walk-through closet with automated lighting, and a luxurious en-suite bathroom featuring a spa-style wet room with soaking tub and dual rain showers, a double vanity, a water closet with pocket doors and sink, and two towel warmers.
A second room on this floor serves as a small bedroom or home office.

Upstairs, the fourth floor offers three additional bedrooms-one with an en-suite bath-plus another full bathroom and a large windowed laundry room with stacked washer and dryer and a built-in steaming station.

Finally, the penthouse level is your private party retreat, complete with a mini fridge, a bright lounge, and two fully equipped roof decks with electricity, water, and pre-wired speakers.

And yes-you can take the elevator all the way back down.

Crown Heights | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Originally known as Crown Hill by the Lenape Indians that lived there, Crown Heights has evolved into a diverse neighborhood, occupied primarily by Hasidic Jews and one of the largest Caribbean populations to be found anywhere outside of the West Indies.

Head over to Nostrand Avenue, one of the main West Indian commercial areas in the neighborhood, which is lined with stores that have been in those exact same places for generations, providing their goods and services to area residents. Kingston Avenue has similar commercial activities that support the Jewish community, and Franklin Avenue shows the most signs of change and gentrification, with an ever-expanding mix of yoga studios, coffee shops, and organic grocery stores that serve the influx of young professionals. No matter which of these areas you visit, you will find an interesting mix of businesses that you wouldn’t normally picture as existing side-by-side. It is all part of the cultural diversity of Crown Heights.

The neighborhood is bisected, from east to west, by Eastern Parkway, which is a beautiful, 3-mile-long boulevard lined with mature trees. This leafy oasis was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famed designer of Central Park, the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, and the U. S. Capitol in Washington, D. C.

You will find a mix of low-rise apartment buildings, large middle-class elevator buildings, brownstones, and some luxury buildings. Century-old architecture stands next to modern residential developments in a visually interesting mix of styles, much as the diversity of the residents exists. People who would not normally meet and mix are forging new pathways to cultural understanding by working, living, and playing together in the same neighborhood.
