Property Description for 1171 Bedford Ave, 3-R

This updated junior one-bedroom on Bedford Avenue offers a thoughtful balance of classic charm and modern convenience in a well-maintained four-story building. Positioned on the third floor with good natural light, the apartment welcomes you with high ceilings and energy-efficient windows that create an immediately inviting atmosphere.

The living area's generous proportions and airy feel make it naturally suited for modern living, with ample room to carve out a dedicated work-from-home nook alongside your main living space. Original details like the decorative mantel and exposed brick wall add character that grounds the apartment in the neighborhood's historic fabric, while hardwood floors run throughout, lending warmth and continuity to each room.

The thoughtful layout provides genuine separation between spaces, allowing the cozy bedroom to feel like a true retreat. You'll find sufficient closet space here along with those same beautiful hardwood floors and the gracious ceiling height that defines the entire apartment. Ceiling fans in both the living area and bedroom add comfort during warmer months while maintaining the clean aesthetic.

A pass-through opens from the living area into an efficient galley kitchen that's been updated with an eye toward both style and function. Espresso-toned cabinetry pairs with classic white subway tile, while stainless steel appliances including a practical Haier bottom-freezer refrigerator handle your everyday needs. The extended countertop creates a versatile spot for quick meals or casual conversation, making the kitchen feel more spacious and welcoming than its footprint might suggest.

The bathroom continues the apartment's updated sensibility with contemporary slate tile floors and a neutral palette that feels fresh and calming. Throughout the apartment, you'll appreciate practical touches like custom Elfa open shelving at the entry, video intercom for security, and a Nest thermostat for climate control.

The location places you right at the vibrant intersection of Clinton Hill and Bedford Stuyvesant with an abundance of neighborhood cafes, restaurants, and shops. The A and C trains are just blocks away, making your commute refreshingly straightforward. Tenants are responsible for utilities.

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
