Property Description for 34-13 80th Street, 31

Located in the Chateau, one of Jackson Heights’ most celebrated historic garden apartment complexes, this beautifully renovated classic six features three bedrooms and two baths. Move-in ready, the expansive, sun-drenched through-floor unit benefits from triple exposures to the West, East, and South. The residence has been fully updated for the new owners, offering a modern kitchen and two spacious, renovated bathrooms. Stunning prewar details have been meticulously maintained throughout the unit. Upon entry, a welcoming foyer leads directly to a generous living room, highlighted by an original mantle over a wood-burning fireplace. Opposite the living room is a formal dining room, both with Western exposure overlooking 80th Street—one of Jackson Heights’ most picturesque and peaceful blocks. These rooms feature original hardwood flooring with parquet bordered by maple and walnut inlay. Nine-foot ceilings are further accentuated by classic wainscoting and picture moldings, creating a grand and elegant atmosphere. The formal dining room and the large chef’s kitchen are ideal for entertaining. The newly renovated kitchen is spacious and contemporary, equipped with sleek modern cabinetry, a tile floor, and stainless steel appliances. All three bedrooms overlook the serene interior courtyard garden, providing peaceful and private retreats. The large primary bedroom offers a renovated bathroom, dual exposures, and a spacious closet. The second bedroom also boasts two garden exposures, while the third bedroom is oriented toward the courtyard, ensuring quiet and comfort. The original wood windows have been updated and work flawlessly. The unit includes a basement storage unit. The building has an updated laundry room easily accessible from the elevator. The building is pet friendly and self-managed. The Chateau was constructed by the Queensboro Corporation in the 1920s and designed by principal architect Andrew J. Thomas in the French Revival style. Comprising twelve buildings that encircle a remarkable interior courtyard, the complex stands out for its stately limestone facade, slate mansard roofs, ornate dormers, and decorative finials. At the core of the complex is a block-long, exquisitely landscaped private garden. Mature trees, tranquil pathways, and secluded seating nooks create a peaceful oasis for residents. Convenient to all transportation, the Sunday green market, 34th Ave Open Street, Travers Park and a host of dining and shopping options. All information and dimensions should be independently verified by buyers. Prior to use, buyers are advised to inspect the fireplace and chimney. Jackson Heights | Queens

Quick Profile

Jackson Heights has one of the most diverse populations in the city, and over 100 languages are spoken here. With this cultural diversity comes supporting restaurants, bars, shops and cultural opportunities. It is a mix of commercial and residential properties. There is a wide range of shops and service businesses, so that anything you would need, from a barber, to a pharmacy, to clothing, and food is available right in the neighborhood, no matter which culture or language you might need these services provided in.

Jackson Heights has three nicknames, based on micro-neighborhoods with the neighborhood as a whole. Little India occupies an area on 74th Street, while parts of 73rd Street are known as Little Pakistan. Little Columbia is along 37th Avenue.

A large portion of Jackson Heights has been designated as an historic district, from Roosevelt Avenue to Northern Boulevard, between the east side of 76th Street to the west side of 88th Street.

Jackson Heights was a planned community, where the first “garden apartments” were created in buildings constructed around central gardens and green spaces that gave neighbors a place to meet and socialize with one another, created places for children to play, allowing light to come into the apartments and air to flow freely through them. These gardens are private and only residents have access to them. Passing by the buildings, you might not even guess the gardens were there, as they are not generally visible from the street.

Additionally, there are some mid-rise apartment buildings. Some of these are rentals, some are co-ops, and some are condos. There are a few attached row houses that provide housing for one to three families.

As much as Jackson Heights might be full of noise and mix of cultures, it also has a quieter side, where the various cultures mix and mingle and learn about each other against a backdrop of beautiful architecture and a culinary landscape that brings the world to Queens.
