Property Description for 357 East 57th Street, 6-D

Apartment 6D at 357 East 57th Street is a rare four-exposure corner residence, offering light from north, south, east, and west, with open city views and beautifully proportioned rooms.

Freshly painted, the living area enjoys bright east-facing light and open city scenes at a comfortable height above 57th Street-where daily life unfolds just outside your door.

The walk-through kitchen features white cabinetry with original hardware, black stone countertops, a GE stainless steel gas range, and a Frigidaire dishwasher. Just beyond, an open dining alcove with windows is thoughtfully separated from the main living space and makes for the perfect home office.

The two bedrooms are quietly set apart in a private wing. The primary bedroom faces 57th Street and features an en-suite bath and two separate closets, while the second bedroom offers a peaceful retreat with an exceptionally large walk-in closet. Storage is exceptional throughout, with three oversized closets in the foyer allowing for an unusually organized entry experience.

The white-tiled bathrooms with tubs are classic, and newer through-wall air-conditioning units serve the living room and front bedroom.

This is a fuss-free two-bedroom home-move-in ready, with room to personalize. Additional features include wooden built-in shelving. The apartment is ideally located just moments from Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, with easy access to everyday essentials and the express 4/5 trains, as well as the N, Q, R, and W lines.

The 114-unit co-op, built in 1958, offers a furnished roof deck, 24-hour doorman, live-in resident manager, laundry room, storage (Availability to be confirmed), and bike storage. The building permits up to 75% financing, co-purchasing, and part-time living. Pets and washer/dryers are allowed with board approval. Board-approved one-or two-year sublets permitted; no short-term rentals and a 30% monthly sublet surcharge applies.

Sutton Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Sutton Place is usually described with favorable words like charming, cozy, great neighborhood, hidden gem, sanctuary, or even small village inside a big city. Those descriptions aren’t from real estate folks either, they’re from the people that live and work there, so it must be true.

The quiet and upscale neighborhood is more like an enclave. It’s bounded by East 53rd Street to the south, East 59th Street to the North, First Avenue to the west, and the East River to the east. Most residents will tell you that everything you’ll ever need is located in the neighborhood. When it’s time to venture out into the cityscape, Sutton Place is within easy reach to Midtown and cultural attractions like the Museum of Modern Art, Rockefeller Center, Central Park and other iconic sites.

Manhattan has always had notable celebrity residents. But for unknown reasons, Sutton Place has had more than its share of superstars over the years. Some of the more iconic celebs include: Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller, Freddie Mercury, Sigourney Weaver, Joan Crawford, Michael Jackson and sister Latoya (Just for one summer).

Sutton Place is named after Effingham B. Sutton, a shipping merchant and entrepreneur. After hitting it big in the California gold rush, Sutton built brownstones along East 57th and East 58th streets with aspirations of making the section more residential. Poverty and crime dashed his dreams. The street gangs that hung out along the dead-ends and cul-de-sacs added to the neighborhood’s decay. Sutton was about to give up on his development endeavors but the Vanderbilt’s and the Morgan’s showed up in the 1920s and transformed the neighborhood. It soon became a wealthy enclave.
