Just off Smith Street and surrounded by the best of Brooklyn, this beautiful four-story home offers a rare combination of scale, natural light, and serenity. The parlor floor features soaring 13-foot ceilings with original crown moulding details, two original marble-mantled fireplaces, and a gracious double parlor perfect for entertaining or quiet evenings by the fire. A two-story rear extension on the garden and parlor levels enhances the home’s proportions and brings in abundant southern light. The extended parlor floor includes a cozy dining room with a built-in wet bar, sink, and two wine fridges—making it the ultimate spot for relaxed evenings or entertaining guests. On the garden level, an open kitchen with plentiful storage including a walk-in pantry and center island flows seamlessly into a casual family room and out to a beautifully landscaped, south-facing backyard that has been completely reenvisioned (more on that below!). A formal dining room with an original fireplace and a powder room round out this floor. Upstairs, four bedrooms plus a flexible fifth room (perfect as an office, nursery, or playroom) and two full baths provide spacious and versatile living. The spacious primary suite includes a private terrace overlooking the backyard. A full laundry room is located on the primary floor as well. The owners have completed a suite of high-impact upgrades inside and outside, including a new boiler, HVAC units, front door, and appliances. The backyard features a new limestone patio, Ipe fencing and raised deck, irrigation system, and all of the beds are planted in organic soil with a curated mix of apple trees, raspberry and blueberry bushes, a juniper tree, and roses — creating a true urban oasis. Additional features include multi-zone central air, updated plumbing and electrical, and an updated water and sewer system in the basement. Located just off Smith and Court Streets and one block from the F/G trains at Bergen Street, 90 Dean is ideally located for all the neighborhood’s conveniences.

Boerum Hill | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Boerum Hill is a tiny, quiet, primarily residential neighborhood in Brooklyn. There are broad tree-lined streets that are filled with elegant three and four-story brownstones and townhouses, mostly built between 1840 and 1870. There is a definite family vibe to the neighborhood, but young professionals are moving in, and with them are coming trendy bars to cater to their desire for some measure of nightlife, without having to linger in Manhattan. These new bars and restaurants are being sandwiched in amongst existing shops on both Atlantic Avenue and Smith Street, which are the main commercial areas in Boerum Hill.

Boerum Hill offers a convenient location that is still able to maintain its small-neighborhood feel. Shopkeepers value their customers and remember their regulars. It continues to do what it was designed to do, namely provide small-town living in the very shadow of the big city. Boerum Hill is an easy commute to other parts of the city, making it easy to come home every day to the peace and tranquility of Boerum Hill while commuting to a job anywhere in the city.

The neighborhood is quite walkable and you can take the time to catch up with your neighbors while visiting on their stoops. Shopping on Atlantic Avenue is stress-free with no high pressure. You can meet with friends at any of the many coffee shops and while away pleasant hours in conversation. The dining scene on Smith Street is similarly laid-back. Don’t expect that there will be quite as much to see or do as there is in Manhattan, but there are a decent number of interesting bars and restaurants providing a measure of nightlife. The trade-off is worth it, as Boerum Hill provides a quiet, peaceful place to live and raise a family.
