Property Description for 599 Van Buren Street

Introducing 599 Van Buren Street - a distinguished two-family townhouse with 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms, set along a picturesque, tree-lined stretch in the heart of Bushwick. Blending classic Brooklyn townhouse character with thoughtful contemporary design, this residence unfolds across more than 3,800 square feet of generous living space, soaring ceilings, and abundant natural light throughout. The parlor level welcomes you with grand proportions and beautifully preserved details, including a wood-burning fireplace. Tall windows frame the block’s leafy charm, while rich hardwood floors and refined millwork create an atmosphere that feels both elegant and inviting. The main living and dining areas flow seamlessly together, ideal for both intimate evenings at home and larger-scale entertaining. Toward the rear, a well-appointed kitchen serves as the heart of the home — designed with custom cabinetry, premium Bosch and Fisher & Paykel appliances, and ample counter space for everyday living. Large glass doors open to a private deck and landscaped garden below, extending the living space outdoors and offering a tranquil retreat for dining, lounging, or gardening. On the second floor, sun-filled bedrooms provide comfort and privacy, with well-proportioned layouts and ample storage. The primary bedroom suite offers a serene escape with a large walk-in custom closet, two arched built-ins with drawers, complemented by a thoughtfully finished en-suite bathroom that balances timeless materials with modern fixtures like a soaking tub and double showerheads. The third floor offers another bedroom with a full bathroom, a fun playroom, and a kitchenette, leading up to the rooftop for additional outdoor space and exciting views of Brooklyn. The two-bedroom, one-bathroom, garden-level offers additional flexibility, whether envisioned as a potential income-producing rental unit, guest quarters, or home office. A finished basement with a half bathroom provides even more versatility for media, fitness, or storage needs. Situated moments from neighborhood favorites, such as Ornithology and Santa Panza, and convenient transportation, 599 Van Buren Street represents an opportunity to own a turnkey townhouse that honors Brooklyn’s architectural heritage while embracing the ease of contemporary living.

Bushwick | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

As one of the most diverse neighborhoods in New York, Bushwick offers a perfect snapshot of just how multicultural the city is. Long-established as an amalgam of cultures and ethnicities, a wave of varying types of immigrants trickled in from the seventeenth to twentieth centuries, with Bushwick largely becoming a home to Hispanics of Puerto Rican and Dominican backgrounds by the latter part of the twentieth century.

With the Bushwick Initiative of the mid-00s that aided in revitalization, it became an attractive area to young professionals and artists. And even now, Bushwick has sustained affordable rent prices where other North Brooklyn counterparts, like Williamsburg and Greenpoint, have become more expensive. Priding itself on the weird and the wacky, numerous art collectives thrive in this part of Brooklyn, once famously named the seventh coolest neighborhood in the world by Vogue.

Though it has drawn in many tourists in recent years (there’s even a graffiti tour you can take from the Bushwick Collective), the neighborhood remains very much community-oriented, and has not been subject to quite the same sort of corporate infiltration phenomenon of its nearby Williamsburg environs.

But yes, of course, Bushwick has come a very long way from its 80s and 90s reputation as being “The Well,” a nickname given to it for its free-flowing and widely available amount of drugs (quantity over quality being the cliche applied here).
