Property Description for 418 East 59th Street, 35-A

Sophisticated Skyline Living at The Grand Sutton — No Board Approval Required Welcome to Residence 35A — a high-floor, corner home where panoramic skyline views meet refined modern design. Perched above Sutton Place, this two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath residence offers elegant living with the city at your feet. Upon entry, you’re greeted by a sweeping floor-through layout framed by floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with light. The open-concept living and dining areas showcase dramatic north and south exposures — from the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings to the East River bridges. Step onto your private balcony and take in the breathtaking views that define Manhattan luxury. Dark hardwood floors and sleek black accents give the home a sophisticated, contemporary feel, while the fully renovated open kitchen is outfitted with premium appliances, including a Liebherr refrigerator, Bertazzoni range, Bosch dishwasher, and microwave. The primary suite offers a serene escape, large enough for a king-size bed and additional furnishings, with a walk-in closet and an indulgent en-suite bath. Relax in the deep Japanese-style jetted soaking tub overlooking the skyline, or refresh in the glass-enclosed rain shower. Dual vessel sinks rest on a reclaimed wood vanity, blending natural warmth with modern luxury. The secondary bedroom is equally impressive — perfect for guests, family, or a home office — featuring its own full bath, striking wood accents, and ample closet space. Additional highlights include a powder room, washer/dryer, central air conditioning, and abundant storage throughout. The Grand Sutton is an intimate, full-service condop with only two residences per floor, ensuring exceptional privacy. Amenities include a 24-hour doorman and concierge, fitness center, garden courtyard, live-in superintendent, and an adjacent parking garage. Guarantors, co-purchasers, and pied-à-terre ownership are permitted. Pets are welcome. Nestled in the heart of Sutton Place, one of Manhattan’s most peaceful enclaves, you’ll enjoy tree-lined cul-de-sacs, serene riverside parks, and charming neighborhood shops—all moments from Midtown and the East River.

Sutton Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Sutton Place is usually described with favorable words like charming, cozy, great neighborhood, hidden gem, sanctuary, or even small village inside a big city. Those descriptions aren’t from real estate folks either, they’re from the people that live and work there, so it must be true.

The quiet and upscale neighborhood is more like an enclave. It’s bounded by East 53rd Street to the south, East 59th Street to the North, First Avenue to the west, and the East River to the east. Most residents will tell you that everything you’ll ever need is located in the neighborhood. When it’s time to venture out into the cityscape, Sutton Place is within easy reach to Midtown and cultural attractions like the Museum of Modern Art, Rockefeller Center, Central Park and other iconic sites.

Manhattan has always had notable celebrity residents. But for unknown reasons, Sutton Place has had more than its share of superstars over the years. Some of the more iconic celebs include: Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller, Freddie Mercury, Sigourney Weaver, Joan Crawford, Michael Jackson and sister Latoya (Just for one summer).

Sutton Place is named after Effingham B. Sutton, a shipping merchant and entrepreneur. After hitting it big in the California gold rush, Sutton built brownstones along East 57th and East 58th streets with aspirations of making the section more residential. Poverty and crime dashed his dreams. The street gangs that hung out along the dead-ends and cul-de-sacs added to the neighborhood’s decay. Sutton was about to give up on his development endeavors but the Vanderbilt’s and the Morgan’s showed up in the 1920s and transformed the neighborhood. It soon became a wealthy enclave.
