Property Description for 111 Fourth Ave, 11-DE

First showings Wednesday, 3/25, 4-6pm, by appointment only. Rarely available for rent, furnished or mostly furnished. No pets please. Available in May. Perfectly located at the convergence of NoHo, Greenwich Village, Union Square, and the East Village, this one of a kind corner loft in the sky designed by Roman & Williams offers impressive scale, architectural interest, and dramatic vistas. Featuring 14.5' beamed ceilings, 8 near floor-to-ceiling orig. industrial casement windows, and modern conveniences like central air conditioning and motorized shades, welcome home to Apartment 11DE. With prime exposures south and west, the dramatic 42-foot long Great Room is bathed in glorious natural light and serves as the perfect backdrop for sunsets. Full-height custom library-style bookcases anchor the space.  A sculptural blackened steel and wood curved staircase separates living from dining and kitchen. The dining area can comfortably seats 8-10 guests for both intimate and grand-scale dinner parties.  The windowed kitchen is very special, with its butcher block countertops, custom shaker-style cabinetry and glazed tile backsplash. Fully equipped, an induction range, dishwasher, and a farmhouse sink complete the kitchen. Upstairs, you'll find the primary bedroom with a large walk-in closet, a second room that can be used as another bedroom or media room, and a third room that best functions as a home office or study. The catwalk connecting all 3 rooms allows one to fully experience the true grand scale of the apartment.  The primary bathroom is reminiscient of a zen-like spa and functions more like a wet-room than a traditional bath. Tucked behind operable blackened steel and opaque glass casement-style windows, one can enjoy the sunset as they soak in an original clawfoot tub from 1850s France. There is also a large separate shower, heated towel rack, plentiful storage, and a large vanity with handmade nickel plated British water fixtures.  Designed by the renowned architectural firm Starrett & van Vleck—also responsible for iconic buildings such as the Lord & Taylor Building, Saks Fifth Avenue, and the American Stock Exchange—111 Fourth Avenue was originally constructed in 1920 as the headquarters of the International Tailoring Company, then one of the world’s largest manufacturers of custom menswear. Converted to coop in 1980 and now landmarked, residents enjoy two beautifully landscaped roof decks with sweeping Manhattan skyline views, 24-hour doorman, live-in superintendent, and renovated laundry rooms on every floor.  111 Fourth Avenue offers immediate access to Whole Foods, Wegmans, The Standard East Village, world-class dining, shopping, and entertainment. Transportation is seamless with the 4, 5, 6, N, Q, R, and L subway lines all nearby.

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
