Property Description for 17 Linden Street

Presenting an incredibly rare offering in vibrant Bushwick, where authentic Brownstones are seldom available. This exceptional townhouse blends historic Brooklyn charm with thoughtful modern upgrades, showcasing a working fireplace, striking barrel bay windows across three levels, and beautifully preserved original details throughout. Configured as a 20’ x 50’ owners duplex, the residence offers three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, two powder rooms, private outdoor space, and a finished basement, along with a separate, beautifully scaled two bedroom, one bathroom rental complete with an in-unit washer and dryer. The parlor level immediately captivates with meticulously restored architectural details, including the original staircase, pier mirror, intricate woodwork, and a wood-burning fireplace. Recently enhanced with a custom-fitted fireplace insert, the hearth now delivers the ambiance of a real wood fire with improved thermal efficiency and a sleek, contemporary aesthetic. The expansive living and entertaining spaces flow seamlessly across the parlor floor. A gracious living room with the fireplace anchors the home, followed by a dining area and a stylish powder room. The chef’s kitchen features floor-to-ceiling navy cabinetry with brushed gold hardware, an oversized white island, and premium stainless steel appliances including a Wolf gas range. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open to a private deck, perfect for outdoor dining and effortless access to the private backyard. The current owners have further elevated the home with thoughtful upgrades, including CityQuiet soundproof windows installed in the parlor and third-floor bay windows for enhanced comfort and tranquility, as well as custom-designed built-out closets in the primary suite. Upstairs, natural light pours in from a brand new, expansive skylight positioned above the staircase. The second floor features a generous primary suite at the rear of the home with custom closets providing exceptional storage and organization. Two additional bedrooms are located at the front and share a full bathroom, while a dedicated laundry room with washer and dryer completes the level. The fully finished basement adds flexible living space with a powder room, ideal for recreation, a home office, gym, or additional storage. The garden level features a private two-bedroom apartment with its own entrance, full bathroom, open kitchen and living area, and in-unit washer and dryer hookups. This space offers an excellent opportunity for rental income, guest accommodations, or extended living. Located within the Linden Street Historic District, designated by the Landmarks Preservation Commission in 2023, the home is part of the first and only historic district in Bushwick. This remarkably preserved stretch of 32 brick and brownstone row houses offers a unique sense of architectural continuity and historic character rarely found in the neighborhood. Perfectly positioned on the border of Bushwick and Bed-Stuy, the home enjoys easy access to some of Brooklyn’s most exciting restaurants, cafés, and cultural venues, along with convenient transportation options throughout the city. A rare opportunity to own a classic Brooklyn Brownstone that seamlessly blends historic character, modern upgrades, and protected architectural significance.

Bushwick | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

As one of the most diverse neighborhoods in New York, Bushwick offers a perfect snapshot of just how multicultural the city is. Long-established as an amalgam of cultures and ethnicities, a wave of varying types of immigrants trickled in from the seventeenth to twentieth centuries, with Bushwick largely becoming a home to Hispanics of Puerto Rican and Dominican backgrounds by the latter part of the twentieth century.

With the Bushwick Initiative of the mid-00s that aided in revitalization, it became an attractive area to young professionals and artists. And even now, Bushwick has sustained affordable rent prices where other North Brooklyn counterparts, like Williamsburg and Greenpoint, have become more expensive. Priding itself on the weird and the wacky, numerous art collectives thrive in this part of Brooklyn, once famously named the seventh coolest neighborhood in the world by Vogue.

Though it has drawn in many tourists in recent years (there’s even a graffiti tour you can take from the Bushwick Collective), the neighborhood remains very much community-oriented, and has not been subject to quite the same sort of corporate infiltration phenomenon of its nearby Williamsburg environs.

But yes, of course, Bushwick has come a very long way from its 80s and 90s reputation as being “The Well,” a nickname given to it for its free-flowing and widely available amount of drugs (quantity over quality being the cliche applied here).
