Property Description for 545 West 20th Street, 5-B

Scale, light, character and authenticity blend perfectly to present this West Chelsea loft condominium. Enter from your private elevator into this full floor home with enormous ceilings, broad proportions and wrapped in light from three exposures. Currently configured as three bedrooms, this space easily lends itself to as many as four to five bedrooms all with private outdoor space and a fireplace for those crisp New York days. At nearly 3,600 square feet of volume and texture unfolding beneath soaring 12 foot beamed timber ceilings, with large, oversized windows on three exposures drawing in light throughout the day, it is a loft defined by air and proportion, where exposed brick, cast iron columns, and restored hardwood floors create a backdrop that feels both storied and enduring.

At its center, a great room of remarkable proportion stretches an astonishing 48 by 47 feet, offering a sense of openness rarely found in the city. Light shifts across the space from multiple directions, giving it a quiet dynamism from morning through evening. The kitchen is both centerpiece and workhorse, outfitted with Miele, Gaggenau, and Viking appliances and anchored by a dramatic 22 foot breakfast bar that invites gathering, conversation, and long, unhurried meals.

The current layout offers two expansive bedrooms and a home office, each bedroom with its own en suite bath, with the scale to easily create a true three bedroom home. A private north facing terrace extends directly from the living space, offering a rare moment of outdoor calm and an effortless extension of the interior. There is also a sense of ease built into the home, with central air, an oversized laundry room, and a substantial private storage unit that transfers with the residence.

Set in the heart of West Chelsea, within a discreet boutique building with a full time superintendent, the address places you at the intersection of culture and calm. Moments from the High Line, surrounded by the galleries of Gagosian Gallery and David Zwirner, and within easy reach of Chelsea Market, this is a location that does not need introduction. It is simply where you are meant to be.

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
