Property Description for 24 West 55th Street, 3-D

This oversized one-bedroom cooperative at the Rockefeller Apartments features lovely north-facing exposures overlooking 55th Street. A standout feature of the home is the unique circular dining nook, complete with a round window that brings in both northern and eastern light. Freshly painted with refinished hardwood floors, the apartment retains its original charm, highlighted by black-and-white tiled kitchen flooring and a classic original bathroom. All windows have been replaced with double-glazed glass while preserving their elegant casement style, and through-the-wall air conditioning is installed throughout. The generously sized primary bedroom has been thoughtfully divided into two distinct areas, comfortably accommodating a king-sized bed with ample space for additional furniture. The secondary space offers flexibility for a home office, workout area, or dressing room, complete with a small sink. Considered one of New York’s finest examples of 1930s International Style residential architecture, the Rockefeller Apartments at 24 West 55th Street and 17 West 54th Street are twin buildings connected by a beautifully restored, lush garden oasis. This serene space features a reflecting pool, gravel courtyard, and mid-century design elements. Residents may enter from either 54th or 55th Street, both serviced by full-time doormen. Developed by Nelson Rockefeller in 1936 and designed by architects Wallace K. Harrison and André Fouilhoux, the buildings are celebrated for their distinctive curved casement windows and warm limestone facade. Amenities include 24-hour doormen, porter staff, a live-in superintendent, laundry room, storage (as available), and the landscaped courtyard garden. Financing up to 75% is permitted. Pied-à-terre ownership, foreign buyers, and pets are allowed. Washer/dryers are not permitted in-unit. Ideally located near Fifth Avenue shopping, top restaurants, the Museum of Modern Art, Rockefeller Center, Central Park, Broadway theaters, and major transportation. There is a 2% flip tax.

Midtown West | Manhattan

Quick Profile

People, yellow cabs, bright lights, big crowds, 24-hour eateries and just about every type of store imaginable. it’s a frenetic buzz that only a few places on the globe can offer. And that’s just one part of it. Midtown West is the birthplace of hustle and bustle and it’s bordered by 42nd to the south, 59th Street to the north, 8th Avenue to the west, and 5th Avenue to the east.

Midtown West is not as residential as other neighborhoods in Manhattan. The bustling part of Midtown West is 42nd Street between Times Square and 8th Avenues where the retail and office space, theatres, and attractions are. No matter what time of day it is, you'll always find activity there.

Residential buildings lay near the western end of Midtown West beginning around 8th Avenue.

Location, location, location. Of all the neighborhoods and enclaves of Manhattan, Midtown West is perhaps the most commutable place to live, visit, or work. It contains one of the highest concentrations of subway lines in the Big Apple. A, C, E, N, Q, R, 1, 2, 3, and the 7 train. The transit system feeds the streets with commuters from everywhere. The Port Authority Bus Terminal and nearby Penn Station adds to the number of people that flood Midtown on any given day.

It’s one of the easiest places in all of Manhattan to navigate because it’s a true grid. Uptown, street numbers go up. Downtown, street numbers go down. It’s the same concept from east to west. You really can’t get lost in Midtown West.
