Property Description for 201 Spencer Street, 5-B

Loft-style home with a tax abatement until 2030. Unlike any other in Clinton Hill/Bed-Stuy. Available for the first time! The key-locked elevator opens directly into the apartment, where you have a very expansive living room made for entertaining. With room for dining and a large lounge area, you are flooded with light from your western treetop views. The large private balcony, the most private in the building, offers a great indoor/outdoor feel as you look over the surrounding townhouses. The open kitchen is made for the most discerning of chefs, with plenty of counter space, storage, and an easy flow for creating multiple-course meals. Separated from the living space, you find the home office where you can work separately from entertaining, right off the 1/2 bathroom. With the ability to convert the bedrooms into 2 or even 3 sleeping rooms, the bedroom wing offers a lot of flexibility as lifestyles grow. The bedrooms are flooded with light in the morning, and the living room is bathed with sunlight in the afternoon. Currently configured as a spacious one-bedroom, please see the alternative layout with the conversion option. Complete with oak hardwood floors, central heat and AC, a washer/dryer, and 1.5 bathrooms, this home offers the size and flexibility to accommodate almost any life stage. Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
