Property Description for 55 Tiemann Place, 6

There are still places in Manhattan where the city softens a little.
Tiemann Place is one of them.

Tucked between Broadway and Riverside Drive within a quieter pocket of Morningside Heights, this stretch of uptown carries its own atmosphere. Riverside Park opens toward the Hudson with winding paths, old trees, river light, and open sky. Sakura Park, General Grant National Memorial, and the surrounding overlooks create moments of stillness rarely expected within Manhattan itself.

Life here moves at its own pace. Dogs pulling toward the park. Students beneath trees with books tucked beneath their arms. Evenings drifting between The Expat, Pisticci, neighborhood caf s, bookstores, wine bars, and longtime local gathering places. Columbia University, Manhattan School of Music, and Cathedral of St. John the Divine quietly shape the surrounding atmosphere in ways both intellectual and deeply human.

And somewhere in the background, almost softly enough to miss, the elevated 125th Street train moves through the neighborhood like part of the city's own background music.

Inside, the two bedroom suite residence has been thoughtfully and extensively renovated with quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, sliding French doors, generous closet space, and the rare convenience of a dedicated in-house walk-in storage room within 55 Tiemann. Southern light filters softly through the tall windows in each room, drawing in lovely glimpses of the neighborhood's trees, sky, and charming streetscapes, while moving gently across hardwood floors, crown moldings, and lofty ceilings throughout the day. Thoughtfully selected light fixtures further complement the home's classic pre-war character and understated elegance.
Both bedroom suites are notably sized and exceptionally versatile, easily accommodating substantial bedding alongside additional lounge, reading, or home office areas without feeling crowded. The building itself retains the timeless character that continues to make classic pre-war Manhattan so enduringly beloved. With its clean proportions, natural light, and exceptionally functional layout, the home also lends itself beautifully to thoughtful furnishing and personal style. It is the kind of space where a well-placed chair, a favorite collection of books, warm lighting, and carefully chosen pieces create an atmosphere that feels both elevated and deeply livable, all without ever needing excess.

Beyond the apartment itself, everyday living here feels refreshingly uncomplicated. A friendly longtime live-in superintendent, elevator access, laundry within the building, secure entry, and Wi-Fi-enabled keyless apartment access all contribute to the ease that makes the residence function so well day to day. Even the building itself carries a timeless character, from its classic lobby and terrazzo tilework to the old landings and understated pre-war details that continue to give buildings like this their enduring appeal.

This is the kind of Manhattan neighborhood where life feels full without feeling hurried, where riverside paths, old buildings, familiar faces, neighborhood gathering places, birdsong drifting from the parks, and the quiet movement of the city all seem to exist within their own distinct rhythm. A part of NYC that still feels deeply connected to itself.

Key Note: We truly appreciate your understanding. However, pets are not permitted in Unit #6.

Morningside Heights | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Due to the large number of institutes of higher learning that are housed within its borders, most notably Columbia University, Morningside Heights has a very definite college-town vibe. It has been dubbed the “Academic Acropolis,” both for the large number of schools and for the fact that the neighborhood is built high atop the Manhattan schist bluffs that are the geological bedrock of NYC. From this vantage point, which is the highest point of land in all of Manhattan, you can take in stunning views of upper Manhattan and the Hudson River. Sunsets are especially breathtaking from Riverside Park.

Walk through Morningside Heights and you’ll see a diverse population, especially when the schools are in session. It has a generally quiet atmosphere, bounded by large green spaces, dotted with small cafes, specialty stores, and restaurants that offer all manner of international cuisine. There is a modest nightlife consisting of intimate bars and small musical venues, many of which are open to the wee hours of the morning, and frequented by students.

Housing is primarily pre-war buildings that have larger apartments and beautiful architecture clustered around Broadway. You can find affordable walk-ups in low-rise buildings on the side streets. Many of the residential buildings in the area actually are owned by Columbia University.
