Property Description for 1196 Metropolitan Ave, 2-A

Introducing a rare converted firehouse loft, reimagined as an inspired, design-centric urban retreat on the border of vibrant East Williamsburg & bustling Bushwick. This stunning, open concept, 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom home, seamlessly blends historic character with modern design, creating a truly one-of-a-kind living experience. The striking industrial aesthetic with statement features including a sleek floating steel staircase to the primary suite, an awe-inspiring spiral staircase leading to the roof deck, and chic polished concrete floors, are artfully juxtaposed with the warmly restored exposed brick walls and original barrel-vaulted ceilings. Walls of oversized windows with three exposures frame spectacular views of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Kosciuszko Bridge, while the addition of multiple skylights ensures natural light floods throughout the loft all day long.

The thoughtfully designed kitchen is a chef and entertainer's dream, featuring matte black Reform cabinetry, brand new Fisher & Paykel appliances, a large waterfall island, and exceptional storage. A custom stadium-style staircase leads to a large outdoor terrace, creating a clever additional seating element, and a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living.

Outdoor space abounds, highlighted by a second, massive private roof deck, with a bulkhead, lounge area, and expansive open views where the sky is truly the limit.

Back inside, the spacious yet cozy bedroom on the first level features a picture window with Western exposure, exposed brick and beams, and plenty of space to sleep and relax in comfort. The primary suite located on the upper level is a true retreat, complete with incredible closet space, a lounge, dressing or reading area, and a dramatic skylight with automatic blinds offering the ability to let light pour in or to keep it at bay. The primary bath evokes a spa-like atmosphere with its freestanding soaking tub, walk-in shower, double vanity, and oversized window. Both bathrooms have been beautifully appointed with large-format tile work and high-end fixtures as well. Additional highlights of the home include an in-unit washer/dryer, multi-zone HVAC, and smart lighting throughout.

Set at the intersection of East Williamsburg and Bushwick, you're surrounded by standout dining, nightlife, and creative culture. Cooper Park, Whole Foods, and the Graham Avenue subway are all just moments away as well.

Bold, soulful, and meticulously renovated, this residence is a true design statement-where striking architecture, abundant light, and sweeping views combine to create a one-of-a-kind living experience.

The Williamsburg Firehouse Lofts offer a condo conversion unlike anything else. Originally built as an active firehouse and home to Engine Company No. 206, also known as The Brooklyn Gashouse Gang, 1196 Metropolitan Avenue later became the Metropolitan Social Club-an underground music venue known for live performances and legendary parties. Today it stands proudly honoring its storied past, while embracing this new chapter as a truly unique, boutique condominium.

East Williamsburg | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

East Williamsburg is a mixed industrial neighborhood in Brooklyn, with many working factories that make everything from beer and wontons to clothing and concrete. You are likely to hear screeching, pounding and the deep thump of industrial machinery throughout the day. East Williamsburg has become a haven for artists and musicians of every description, who are attracted to the large open loft spaces of the converted industrial buildings. The area has attracted a younger crowd of 20- and 30-somethings that are drawn by affordable rents and a generally lower cost of living.

There is a rich history of immigrants from Puerto Rico and Italy, and oddly enough, they chose to settle on opposite ends of Graham Avenue, with the Italians on the north and the Puerto Ricans on the south.

Housing in the area consists of mid-rise apartment buildings, row houses, and public housing complexes. There are also smaller multi-family apartment buildings available. Lofts are becoming more prevalent as the older, abandoned factory buildings come up for sale and are converted into residential properties.

East Williamsburgfairly pulses with a creative vibe. There are unique shopping venues, numerous tiny coffee shops, interesting restaurants, and cafes, along with food trucks that frequent the area. The grocery stores are affordable and carry a wide variety of goods that appeal to the eclectic tastes of the neighborhood residents.

There is a vibrant bar scene, where you will find mostly local residents imbibing, so it is easy to make friends among your neighbors if you stop in frequently at your favorite watering hole. There are many interesting shops, bars and restaurants tucked in amongst the warehouses and factories. Many do not invest in elaborate signage, so it can be difficult to find some of the best spots. Keep an eye out for hand-painted signs on the sides of buildings with arrows pointing to nondescript, nearly invisible entrances.
