Property Description for 148 West 23rd Street, 2-D

Classic Chelsea Loft w/Soaring Ceilings

With its 12-foot soaring ceilings you immediately feel the scale of this loft space. Southern exposure ensures that it's bright throughout the day. Currently the home offers two options for sleeping- either in the alcove below, or in the lofted space above. If preferred the alcove can also function beautifully as a home office or creative workspace. This loft offers tremendous flexibility - you can enjoy the current layout exactly as it is, or renovate and reimagine the space to create a completely different living experience. The spacious kitchen is currently designed with abundant counter space and extensive cabinetry. With the generous ceiling height you can add an additional level of cabinets for even more storage. The bathroom is generously sized and currently features a full tub, which can either be refinished or replaced with a walk-in shower. There's also an excellent amount of storage throughout. As currently configured there is an impressive amount of closet space for a one-bedroom home. And with a redesign there's the potential to create even more storage and custom closet space.

Originally built as an industrial loft building Chelsea Mews retains its distinct architectural details, including its beautiful terra cotta facade and soaring ceilings. The building offers full-service living with an exceptional full-time staff, including full-time door staff and a resident manager Residents enjoy private storage, bike storage, and a beautifully landscaped roof deck with sweeping city views and a variety of seating areas. It truly feels like a private urban oasis in the heart of the neighborhood. Pets are welcome; co-purchasing is allowed, as are pieds-a-terre. And subletting is allowed after a period of ownership.

Located at the crossroads of Chelsea and Flatiron, Chelsea Mews is incredibly central and convenient. You're just a block from multiple subway lines along Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Avenues, as well as the PATH train-and a short distance to both the Broadway and Lexington Avenue lines on 23rd Street. Everyday essentials are right nearby, including Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Fairway, Home Depot, and even a Best Buy-plus a wide range of gyms just blocks away. And of course, you're surrounded by world-class dining, boutique shopping, vibrant nightlife, and a thriving art scene-and just moments from the iconic High Line!

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
