Property Description for 543 West 122nd Street, 8-B

Sun-Filled 1BR with Garden Views

This gracious north-facing one-bedroom frames peaceful garden views and showcases old-world craftsmanship reimagined for modern living. Oversized, high-performance casement windows and tall ceilings flood the home with light, while European white oak floors run underfoot throughout.

The kitchen pairs honed Perla Venata stone counters with custom, craftsman-inspired oak cabinetry and pewter hardware, all outfitted with chef-caliber Miele appliances. The spa-like bath features honed Windsor Cream marble, a soaking tub, and an oversized shower with a frameless glass enclosure, finished with pewter fixtures and custom oak-and-travertine vanities. In-unit comfort is rounded out with Climatemaster HVAC, Whirlpool washer and dryer, and recessed LED lighting.

Perched above the 20th floor, residences here enjoy largely unobstructed views in every direction - the George Washington Bridge, the Hudson River, Central Park, and the Downtown skyline. Select homes include private outdoor terraces.

Designed by Incorporated Architecture and Design, The Vandewater is the Upper West Side's first condominium of its kind - a 33-story tower rising at the crest of West 122nd Street in Morningside Heights. Its design draws on the neighborhood's gothic architectural roots, translating historic detail into a distinctly modern silhouette. Grounds by landscape architects Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates stretch the length of the property, creating a private garden oasis at the building's base.

Residents have access to 24,000 square feet of amenities spread across three floors, including:

  • Double-height lobby with 24-hour concierge and front desk
  • Landscaped garden with outdoor dining and grilling stations
  • Fireside salon and a Great Room with full catering kitchen, dining, and living areas
  • Playroom, teen room, and dedicated study rooms
  • Club room with large viewing screen and a private practice room
  • State-of-the-art fitness center, yoga studio, and 70-foot heated pool with private sauna
  • Pet spa, private storage, and on-site parking

Morningside Heights | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Due to the large number of institutes of higher learning that are housed within its borders, most notably Columbia University, Morningside Heights has a very definite college-town vibe. It has been dubbed the “Academic Acropolis,” both for the large number of schools and for the fact that the neighborhood is built high atop the Manhattan schist bluffs that are the geological bedrock of NYC. From this vantage point, which is the highest point of land in all of Manhattan, you can take in stunning views of upper Manhattan and the Hudson River. Sunsets are especially breathtaking from Riverside Park.

Walk through Morningside Heights and you’ll see a diverse population, especially when the schools are in session. It has a generally quiet atmosphere, bounded by large green spaces, dotted with small cafes, specialty stores, and restaurants that offer all manner of international cuisine. There is a modest nightlife consisting of intimate bars and small musical venues, many of which are open to the wee hours of the morning, and frequented by students.

Housing is primarily pre-war buildings that have larger apartments and beautiful architecture clustered around Broadway. You can find affordable walk-ups in low-rise buildings on the side streets. Many of the residential buildings in the area actually are owned by Columbia University.
