Property Description for 211 Thompson Street, PH-H

Set on one of Greenwich Village's most recognizable tree-lined blocks, this penthouse unit at 211 Thompson Street is a distinctive duplex penthouse offering volume, light, and thoughtful design in a full-service cooperative with PT doorman, elevator and laundry on every floor.

Inspired by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright, this one-bedroom, two-bath residence was reimagined by architect Andrew Wilkinson and later featured in Metropolitan Home. The home is defined by its dramatic 16-foot ceilings, open village views, and a cohesive design language that integrates storage, materials, and function throughout.

The entry foyer opens into a double-height living area where height and natural light are the focal points. A straight staircase, discreetly set behind a wall of Shoji-screened closets, leads to the mezzanine level. A Juliet balcony off the living space frames views of the Washington Square Arch to the north and the Jenga building in Tribeca to the south. A skylight introduces additional daylight and enhances the sense of openness.

The open kitchen and living area are unified by custom millwork that incorporates concealed and built-in storage. The kitchen features polished granite countertops and backsplash, a custom Northland refrigerator, Miele dishwasher, and Gaggenau cooktop and range. Reinforced flooring finished in natural stone tile contributes to the clean, modern aesthetic and durability of the space. A full bath on this level includes mosaic tile finishes and a Kohler vessel sink.

Upstairs, the full-ceiling-height mezzanine bedroom benefits from an expanded floor area, creating a more generous second level with ample room for a home office or bedroom seating area. A large walk-in closet provides substantial storage, and an additional full bath completes this private suite.

211 Thompson is a well-maintained, financially sound cooperative with a live-in superintendent, part-time doorman (10am-2am on weekdays and until 4am on weekends), elevator, and laundry on every floor. The building's location in the heart of Greenwich Village places it near Washington Square Park and at the center of downtown Manhattan's vibrant dining, shopping, cultural, and entertainment options. Multiple nearby subway lines, including the B/D/F/M, N/R, A/C/E, 1 and 6, provide convenient access to the rest of the city.

PHH at 211 Thompson Street combines architectural character, practical layout, and a central Village address in a full-service setting.

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
