Property Description for 148 West 23rd Street, 4-B

Defined by 11-foot beamed ceilings, this pre-war one bedroom loft with a home office occupies a full-service building in the heart of Chelsea. Currently configured as a partially open loft, the layout has flexible potential to enclose spaces if desired. Hardwood floors and 9-foot doorways punctuate the pin drop quiet, south-facing residence.

The oversized living room comfortably accommodates a dining room table for six, and is anchored by newly installed custom built-ins, elevating the space with seamless storage. Recessed, dimmable lighting throughout allows the space to transition effortlessly from day to evening. Motorized blinds frame the windows throughout.

Outfitted with stainless steel appliances, the kitchen boasts a dual sink, an enormous pantry, and features open walls to maximize light throughout.
The partially enclosed bedroom comfortably fits a king-size bed. A sliding door can easily be added for privacy without sacrificing square footage. The walk-in closet, newly installed by California Closets, leads to a full-sized bathroom with ample storage and a second entry through the living space.

Off the foyer, a versatile flex room currently serves as a home office but is equally suited for a second bedroom or separated dining room. The height of the residence allows for extensive storage spaces off of the foyer, office, and kitchen.

Chelsea Mews is a pre-war loft cooperative offering 24-hour front door staff, elevator, a live-in superintendent, and laundry on every floor. The newly renovated roof deck offers gorgeous views, complemented by a bike room and additional storage. Storage units, pending availability, cost $60-$120 per month depending on size. The building is pet-friendly.

Ideally situated, the neighborhood is renowned for its industrial architecture and some of the city's finest art galleries. The High Line and Chelsea Market are easily accessible, with Trader Joe's and Lifetime Fitness just moments away. Transportation is exceptionally convenient, with the building within a five-minute walk of the F/M, 1, and C/E trains, the PATH, and the M23 bus line.

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
