Property Description for 79-01 35th Ave, 5-C

Southern light, expansive blue-sky views, and classic prewar character come together beautifully in this spacious one-bedroom at Arlington Hall, in the heart of Jackson Heights. With treetop views, excellent storage, a stylishly renovated bathroom, updated electrical, and thoughtful improvements throughout, this is a home that feels both charming and exceptionally livable. Enter through a gracious foyer framed by an elegant archway, with crown moldings overhead and original oak floors finished with classic inlaid borders. Two newly added closets provide generous storage for coats, bags, and seasonal belongings. The spacious living room is anchored by a triple window that draws in wonderful southern light throughout the day while opening to expansive blue-sky views. High ceilings, crown moldings, and dimmable recessed lighting add to the room's warmth and character. A second archway leads to a dedicated dining area with space for a full-size table and a built-in niche perfect for books, art, or a bar setup. The bright, windowed kitchen is well equipped with a gas range, stainless steel appliances, black granite countertops and backsplash, and warm wood cabinetry with glass-front, fluted-panel doors. A sunny window over the range brings natural light and open-sky views right into the kitchen. The stylishly renovated windowed bathroom makes a statement with patterned floor tile in shades of blue, coral, and cream paired with classic white subway tile. A custom wood vanity, black fixtures, recessed shower niche, medicine cabinet, and natural light complete the space. The king-size bedroom is a peaceful retreat, with a large southern-facing window overlooking the treetops and an additional western-facing window that creates an ideal nook for a home office or reading area. The expanded and modernized closet provides substantially more storage than you might expect in a prewar one-bedroom. Thoughtful improvements throughout enhance the home's comfort while respecting its original character. The electrical has been updated, with additional outlets throughout the apartment; the walls have been freshly replastered; and new doors and moldings blend seamlessly with the home's prewar details. Built in 1939, Arlington Hall is a handsome Neo-Georgian brick cooperative designed by Joshua Tabatchnik. Residents enjoy a live-in superintendent, common garden, laundry room, and storage (currently unavailable / waitlisted). Subletting and up to 80% financing are permitted with board approval. Sorry, no pets. Set within the Jackson Heights Historic District, the building is just one block from Paseo Park, the 26-block 34th Avenue Open Street with pedestrian space and protected bike lanes. Two blocks away, Travers Park offers a playground, sports courts, and a popular year-round greenmarket. Some of the neighborhood's best shopping, dining, and nightlife are close at hand, while Flushing Meadows Corona Park, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, and Citi Field are all nearby. Convenient access to the 7, E, F, M, and R trains, multiple bus lines, the BQE, and LaGuardia Airport makes getting around the city—and beyond—easy.

Jackson Heights | Queens

Quick Profile

Jackson Heights has one of the most diverse populations in the city, and over 100 languages are spoken here. With this cultural diversity comes supporting restaurants, bars, shops and cultural opportunities. It is a mix of commercial and residential properties. There is a wide range of shops and service businesses, so that anything you would need, from a barber, to a pharmacy, to clothing, and food is available right in the neighborhood, no matter which culture or language you might need these services provided in.

Jackson Heights has three nicknames, based on micro-neighborhoods with the neighborhood as a whole. Little India occupies an area on 74th Street, while parts of 73rd Street are known as Little Pakistan. Little Columbia is along 37th Avenue.

A large portion of Jackson Heights has been designated as an historic district, from Roosevelt Avenue to Northern Boulevard, between the east side of 76th Street to the west side of 88th Street.

Jackson Heights was a planned community, where the first “garden apartments” were created in buildings constructed around central gardens and green spaces that gave neighbors a place to meet and socialize with one another, created places for children to play, allowing light to come into the apartments and air to flow freely through them. These gardens are private and only residents have access to them. Passing by the buildings, you might not even guess the gardens were there, as they are not generally visible from the street.

Additionally, there are some mid-rise apartment buildings. Some of these are rentals, some are co-ops, and some are condos. There are a few attached row houses that provide housing for one to three families.

As much as Jackson Heights might be full of noise and mix of cultures, it also has a quieter side, where the various cultures mix and mingle and learn about each other against a backdrop of beautiful architecture and a culinary landscape that brings the world to Queens.
