Property Description for 387 Madison Street, PARLOR

New to market: 387 Madison Street is a distinctive Bedford-Stuyvesant rental, pairing classic brownstone character—soaring ceilings and ornate original details—with thoughtful updates for modern comfort. This four-bedroom upper triplex spans three levels of a 20-foot-wide, four-story brownstone, with generous living areas, a back deck, multiple terraces—including one directly off the primary suite—and access to a shared yard for outdoor entertaining. Enter through a double-door vestibule with original townhouse doors into a welcoming foyer. The parlor level features 11-foot-3-inch ceilings, elegant lighting, and a decorative fireplace with hand-carved details. Pocket doors connect the oversized living room and dining room, with the kitchen just beyond. The open kitchen offers Bertazzoni appliances, including a dishwasher and wine refrigerator, abundant cabinetry, generous counter space, and a stylish chandelier. Double glass doors open to the back deck, where stairs lead down to the shared yard—an inviting space for outdoor entertaining. The second floor has three spacious bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a washer and dryer, a linen closet, and a terrace. The rear bedroom includes an en-suite bath and sunny, north-facing terrace with room for seating. The front bedroom fits a queen-size bed and sitting area; the third works well as a guest room or office. A full bathroom with a deep soaking tub completes the floor. The top floor is devoted to a serene primary suite with treetop and sunset views and direct access to its own terrace. The suite has space for a king-size bed, sitting area, and home office, plus a walk-in dressing area with two closets. The spa-inspired bathroom features a walk-in shower and deep soaking tub. On a quiet, tree-lined Bed-Stuy block near transit, the home offers convenient access to Manhattan express trains, street parking, and Citi Bike. Nearby favorites include Saraghina, LunÀtico, Eugene & Co., Bed-Vyne, and Nagel’s Bagels. New 2026 spots include Part Two Cafe and Bakery, Peral—a daytime café and CDMX-style taqueria—and Cicchetti BK, a Venetian-style wine bar serving spritzes and small plates. Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
